The Director, Field Reimbursement provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and performance management for Field Reimbursement Managers (FRMs) supporting pharmaceutical manufacturers across multiple therapeutic areas. This individual is responsible for developing high-performing field reimbursement teams that deliver exceptional provider education, patient access support, reimbursement expertise, and customer engagement while ensuring compliance with all company and manufacturer requirements.

The Director partners closely with clients, internal leadership, operations, training, quality, analytics, and commercial teams to ensure successful program execution, achievement of key performance indicators, and exceptional customer satisfaction.

This position requires a strong understanding of reimbursement, patient access, payer landscapes, specialty pharmacy, provider workflows, and field-based customer engagement.



Essential Responsibilities

Leadership

  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop a team of Field Reimbursement Managers across assigned manufacturer programs.
  • Foster a culture focused on accountability, collaboration, patient-centered support, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct regular field observations, coaching sessions, performance reviews, and development planning.
  • Drive employee engagement, retention, and succession planning.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, and onboard field reimbursement talent.

Client Partnership

  • Serve as a strategic business partner to pharmaceutical manufacturer clients.
  • Participate in governance meetings, business reviews, launch planning, and strategic initiatives.
  • Present program performance, trends, insights, and recommendations to internal leadership and external clients.
  • Build trusted relationships with client leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities to improve customer experience and program performance.

Operational Excellence

  • Ensure successful execution of all field reimbursement services.
  • Monitor program metrics, workload distribution, productivity, and quality standards.
  • Develop and implement operational processes that improve efficiency and scalability.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Quality, Compliance, Technology, and Training teams.
  • Ensure adherence to service level agreements (SLAs), KPIs, and contractual obligations.

Reimbursement & Market Access Expertise

Provide leadership related to:

  • Medical and pharmacy benefit reimbursement
  • Prior authorization processes
  • Appeals support
  • Benefits investigations
  • Claims processing
  • Coding and billing education
  • Government and commercial payer policies
  • Specialty pharmacy distribution models
  • Buy-and-bill and specialty pharmacy pathways
  • Patient support programs
  • Financial assistance resources
  • Remain current on reimbursement trends, payer policy changes, and evolving access challenges.

Strategic Planning

  • Support product launches and lifecycle management.
  • Develop field deployment strategies and territory optimization recommendations.
  • Analyze customer insights and market trends.
  • Identify opportunities to improve access and reimbursement support.
  • Partner on resource planning and forecasting.
  • Drive continuous process improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of FRM leadership experience
  • 8+ years of pharmaceutical reimbursement, patient access, market access, or specialty pharmacy experience
  • 5+ years of people leadership experience
  • Experience leading field-based teams
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare reimbursement and payer processes
  • Experience supporting pharmaceutical manufacturer programs
  • Excellent leadership and coaching skills
  • Strong presentation and executive communication abilities
  • Ability to analyze data and make strategic business recommendations
  • Proficiency with CRM systems, Microsoft Office, and reporting platforms
  • Ability to travel approximately 50-75%

Preferred

  • Experience supporting multiple therapeutic areas
  • Product launch experience
  • National account or field leadership experience
  • Experience in managing manufacturer clients

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit for long periods of time, use hands to type, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Prefer candidates who can type at least 35 words per minute with 97% accuracy.

  • Although very minimal, flexibility to travel as needed is preferred.

  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, etc.
