At 1-800-GOT-JUNK?, we’re looking for a technical leader to build and connect the systems that support our Finance team and growing franchise business.
Reporting to the VP Finance, you are the technical leader responsible for the architecture, integrations and engineering behind our Finance systems. Your work will connect ERP, payments, operational platforms and data systems—reducing manual work and making financial information more accurate, accessible and dependable.
This role sits within Finance and requires a strong engineering or systems architecture background. You may have built your career in software engineering, enterprise applications, integrations or business systems. You do not need to be an accountant. You do need to understand complex business requirements, make sound technical decisions and deliver solutions that work in production.
You’ll partner with Finance leaders who bring process and control expertise, and with Product, Engineering and Data teams to deliver the technology that supports it. As we evolve toward a Product Operating Model, you’ll help Finance technology keep pace with new products, pricing models, payment flows and ways of working.
This is a hands-on leadership role. You’ll move between roadmap decisions, architecture discussions, code reviews and troubleshooting, while guiding delivery through internal teams and external partners.
YOUR IMPACT & WHAT YOU’LL OWN
Technology strategy and architecture
- Own the Finance technology roadmap and target architecture. Assess the current landscape, identify technical constraints and prioritize improvements based on business value, risk and delivery effort. Make pragmatic decisions about when to configure an existing platform, buy a solution, build an integration or develop custom software.
- Partner with the owners of CRM, operational, data and other enterprise platforms to ensure Finance systems fit into the broader technology architecture.
Integration engineering and reliable data flows
- Lead the technical design and delivery of integrations connecting ERP, payments, operational systems and data platforms. Work with APIs, webhooks, middleware and data pipelines to move information accurately and reliably.
- Establish appropriate monitoring, error handling, reconciliation and documentation so integrations can be supported, failures can be diagnosed and data can be traced across systems.
Hands-on technical leadership
- Review solution designs and code, investigate technical issues and challenge proposed approaches. Contribute code, prototypes or integration logic where needed, and guide engineers and vendors through implementation.
- Set expectations for testing, security, maintainability and production support. Ensure solutions remain understandable and supportable as the business grows.
Automation that improves financial operations
- Partner with Finance to identify manual handoffs, duplicate data entry and recurring reconciliation issues. Translate those problems into technical solutions that reduce effort and improve accuracy.
- Support workflows across billing, payments, accounts receivable and payable, close, forecasting and reporting. Finance partners will define accounting requirements and controls; you will lead the technical approach and delivery.
Product and engineering partnership
- Bring Finance technology requirements into product and engineering decisions early. Help teams understand how changes to customer journeys, pricing, products and payment flows affect downstream systems and financial data.
- Agree on system boundaries, dependencies and technical ownership with Product, Engineering and Data teams.
Delivery, team and vendor leadership
- Lead the team and external partners responsible for Finance technology delivery. Translate priorities into a sequenced backlog, establish clear ownership and manage dependencies through implementation and ongoing support.
- Evaluate vendors for technical fit, delivery quality and long-term supportability. Measure progress through working solutions, adoption, reliability and business impact.
Solutions that work across the franchise network
- Work with Finance, Operations and franchise partners to understand how systems are used in practice. Design reusable integrations and tools that support shared standards while accommodating legitimate differences across franchise operations.
WHAT YOU BRING
Essential experience and capabilities
- Significant experience building and delivering technology solutions through software engineering, integration engineering, enterprise applications or systems architecture, including leadership of complex technical initiatives.
- A strong programming foundation and the ability to write, review and troubleshoot code used in production. You can discuss implementation details and evaluate engineering quality.
- Demonstrated experience designing and operating integrations across SaaS applications, enterprise systems and data platforms using APIs, webhooks, middleware or custom services.
- Strong SQL and relational database skills, with practical understanding of data modelling, ETL/ELT pipelines and cloud architecture.
- Experience designing for reliability, including monitoring, error handling, testing, access controls and recovery when systems or integrations fail.
- Sound architectural judgment. You can explain the trade-offs between configuration, integration, automation and custom development, and choose an approach proportionate to the problem.
- Evidence that you have personally contributed to technical design and delivery, alongside leading teams or implementation partners.
- The ability to translate business needs into technical requirements and explain technical decisions clearly to non-technical colleagues.
- A pragmatic approach to ambiguity: you can establish priorities, deliver useful improvements incrementally and avoid unnecessary complexity.
Helpful experience
- JavaScript and/or TypeScript.
- NetSuite or another ERP platform.
- Financial workflows such as billing, payments, order-to-cash, procure-to-pay, reconciliation or financial close.
- Cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, Amazon Redshift or similar.
- Multi-location, franchise or other distributed business environments.
- Working with Product and Engineering teams through iterative delivery.
Deep accounting expertise and a CPA designation are not required. We’re looking for technical depth, strong business judgment and a willingness to learn the Finance domain.
