Founded on rigorous scientific inquiry and a willingness to challenge long-held assumptions, Revolution Medicines is committed to changing the trajectory of disease for patients with RAS-addicted cancers worldwide.

Our people are united by a shared way of working: follow the science, challenge assumptions, act with urgency and hold ourselves to a high standard of rigor—all in service of patients.

The Opportunity:

Revolution Medicines is seeking an experienced, strategic, and highly hands-on FP&A leader to establish and scale financial planning and analysis capabilities in Japan. Reporting directly to the Head of Finance & Operations, Japan, this newly created role will serve as a senior finance business partner to the Japan leadership team and global stakeholders as the organization prepares for future commercialization and long-term growth.

This position will own the Japan FP&A function, leading budgeting, forecasting, management reporting, financial modeling, business performance analysis, and decision support for the Japan business. The role will partner closely with Commercial, Medical Affairs, Market Access, Supply Chain, HR, Legal, Accounting, and global Finance teams to translate business strategy into actionable financial plans, strengthen resource allocation, and build scalable planning processes and tools. This position will set the direction for FP&A capability development and lead its implementation as the Japan business scales.

The ideal candidate combines strong analytical and financial planning expertise with excellent business judgment, communication skills, and the willingness to work directly in detailed models, analyses, and operating processes. This role is based in Tokyo, Japan.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Planning & Forecasting

  • Own and lead annual budget, long-range planning, and periodic forecasting processes for the Japan organization, ensuring alignment with local business priorities and global planning requirements.

  • Build and maintain detailed financial models covering operating expenses, headcount, commercial investments, launch readiness activities, revenue scenarios, gross-to-net assumptions, demand planning and cash requirements.

  • Coordinate planning inputs across functions and challenge assumptions to improve forecast quality, transparency, and accountability.

  • Develop scenario analyses and sensitivity models, and recommend strategic responses to changing business conditions.

  • Ensure planning processes, timelines, and deliverables are scalable as the Japan organization grows.

  • Monitor forecast accuracy and continuously improve forecasting methodologies

Business Partnership & Decision Support

  • Serve as the senior FP&A advisor and business partner to Japan functional leaders, providing financial insight, constructive challenge, and decision support.

  • Partner with Commercial, Medical Affairs, Market Access, Supply Chain, HR, Legal, and other functions to evaluate investments, operating plans, and resource allocation decisions.

  • Lead the financial evaluation and development of business cases for key initiatives, including organizational growth, external partnerships, launch preparation, market development, and capability investments.

  • Translate complex financial and operational information into clear recommendations for local and global leadership.

  • Promote strong financial ownership and disciplined decision-making across the Japan organization.

  • Lead financial assessment and prioritization of investments, recommending capital and resource allocation to the Head of Finance & Operations, Japan, and relevant leadership teams.

Commercial Finance & Launch Readiness

  • Lead financial planning and decision support activities associated with future product launches in Japan.

  • Define launch investment frameworks, evaluate return on investment, and recommend priorities across commercial initiatives.

  • Build and maintain patient-based and market-based forecasting models.

  • Partner with Market Access and Commercial teams to assess pricing, reimbursement, and market access scenarios.

  • Own the development of financial launch readiness metrics and performance monitoring frameworks.

  • Evaluate commercial risks, opportunities, and strategic alternatives through scenario analyses.

Management Reporting & Performance Analysis

  • Own monthly and quarterly management reporting and lead financial performance reviews, including actual-versus-budget analysis, key business drivers, risks, opportunities, and forward-looking insights.

  • Develop dashboards and performance metrics that connect financial outcomes with operational and strategic objectives.

  • Establish financial and operational KPIs and monitor performance.

  • Identify trends, emerging issues, and performance gaps, and agree corrective actions with business leaders and monitor delivery against financial commitments.

  • Present financial outlooks, strategic recommendations, and key trade-offs to Japan leadership and global Finance stakeholders.

  • Partner with Accounting to ensure accurate management reporting, accruals, cost-center ownership, and financial close support.

Financial Systems & Process Governance

  • Set the direction for and lead implementation of scalable FP&A processes, templates, governance, and documentation for the Japan organization.

  • Leverage NetSuite, planning tools, and data sources to improve reporting efficiency, data quality, and analytical capability.

  • Partner with global Finance, IT, Accounting, and external advisors to improve system integration and management information.

  • Drive automation, standardization, and continuous improvement across planning, forecasting, and reporting activities.

  • Establish and oversee appropriate controls, review processes, and documentation over financial planning and management reporting

FP&A Leadership & Global Collaboration

  • Represent Japan FP&A in global planning and performance discussions, ensuring consistent methodologies, assumptions, timelines, and reporting standards.

  • Collaborate with global Finance and functional teams on consolidated planning, management reporting, strategic projects, and ad hoc analyses.

  • Communicate Japan-specific business dynamics, regulatory considerations, and market assumptions clearly to global stakeholders.

  • Lead strategic finance projects and set Japan FP&A priorities and quality standards. Mentor finance colleagues and recommend capability and staffing needs to the Head of Finance & Operations, Japan, as the business scales.

Required Skills, Experience and Education:

  • Proven track record of advising senior executives and influencing strategic investment and resource allocation decisions.

  • Strong financial modeling and business case development expertise.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead evaluations of commercial investments and growth opportunities and translate analysis into actionable recommendations.

  • Exceptional analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.

  • Proven ability to influence senior cross-functional stakeholders and resolve competing priorities without direct authority.

  • Strong executive communication and presentation skills.

  • Fluency in English and Japanese required.

Preferred Skills:

  • Biotechnology, pharmaceutical, life sciences, or healthcare industry experience.

  • Experience supporting pre-commercial and/or launch-stage organizations.

  • Experience in Commercial Finance, Business Finance, Strategic Finance, or Corporate Strategy functions.

  • Experience supporting product launch planning and market access evaluations.

  • Familiarity with patient-based forecasting, revenue modeling, and healthcare market dynamics.

  • Experience in a US-headquartered multinational organization.

  • Experience working directly with country leadership teams and global executives.

  • Experience building FP&A functions, developing finance talent, and establishing scalable processes in a growing organization.
