About Ayoroa Simmons
Ayoroa Simmons is a geospatial, BIM, and reality capture firm founded in 2016 and built on technical delivery and client success. The firm captures and models the built environment for owners, designers, and builders who need accurate existing conditions. Services span terrestrial LiDAR scanning, Scan-to-BIM, BIM and VDC coordination, UAS photogrammetry and LiDAR, survey and geomatics, and GIS.
Clients include higher education institutions, data center developers, institutional owners, state and local government agencies, departments of transportation, and federal and Department of Defense agencies. Work has taken the team across the continental United States, and the Caribbean, where the firm maintains a subsidiary operation.
Ayoroa Simmons is a small business with a team of more than thirty professionals. The firm holds prime contracts with federal agencies and delivers under commercial and public agreements.
The opportunity
The Director, Geospatial Practice owns the growth of the geospatial division and represents Ayoroa Simmons in the market. The division has grown on the strength of its delivery. The firm is now investing in a leader who builds pipeline, opens markets, and gives Ayoroa Simmons a recognized voice in geospatial and reality capture.
The Director owns business development and market-facing decisions for the division from the start, working alongside the CEO. The role suits a licensed professional who has carried technical authority with clients and now wants to own the commercial side of a practice. The person in this seat will shape where the division goes, including the planned expansion into GIS and geospatial analytics and entry into new geographies.
What you will do
Own the pursuit decision
- Make the bid and no-bid recommendation on geospatial pursuits, and be accountable for the win rate that results
- Set pricing posture and win themes on pursuits you lead, and own the gap between the price committed and the margin delivered
- Recommend teaming structure, including whether to prime, subcontract, or pass, and defend the reasoning
- Recommend which markets, vehicles, and client segments the division pursues, and which it declines
Build and convert pipeline
- Originate opportunities before they reach the market, measured by pursuits identified ahead of a public solicitation
- Build relationships at the decision-making level with facilities leadership, capital program managers, and contracting officers, measured by named accounts advanced from first contact to qualified pursuit
- Convert pipeline to award, measured by qualified pipeline created, win rate against the firm's baseline, and revenue attributable to new accounts
- Secure teaming partners and prime relationships that extend the firm's reach, measured by agreements executed and pursuits they produce
Represent the firm in the market
- Serve as a public face of Ayoroa Simmons geospatial at conferences, associations, and client forums, measured by engagements delivered and the pursuits that follow from them
- Build the firm's visibility through presentations, published work, and association involvement
- Maintain technology partner and manufacturer channel relationships
Carry technical authority with clients
- Engage clients on scope, accuracy requirements, deliverable standards, and methodology as a licensed professional, so that commercial conversations carry technical weight
- Serve in responsible charge for survey work in jurisdictions where you hold licensure, extending where the firm can work
- Partner with the operations lead so that commitments made in the market match what delivery produces
How success is measured
The role is assessed on business development outcomes and on the quality of the decisions behind them. Early emphasis sits on origination and judgment. Emphasis shifts toward converted results as the pipeline matures.
Business development outcomes
- Qualified pipeline created, and the share that advances past the capture gate
- Win rate on pursuits led, measured against the firm's baseline
- Revenue from new accounts, and expansion within accounts already held
- Pursuits originated ahead of a public solicitation
Decision quality
- Bid and no-bid calls reviewed against what the pursuits actually produced
- The gap between pricing committed during capture and the margin delivered
- Share of pursuits led independently of the CEO
- Teaming and partnering decisions assessed by the work they generated
Market position
- Speaking engagements delivered, and the pursuits that followed from them
- Teaming agreements executed and the opportunities they opened
- New contract vehicles, client segments, or jurisdictions accessed
What you bring
- Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) licensure, or Professional Engineer (PE) licensure with survey practice, in at least one Mid-Atlantic jurisdiction
- A bachelor's degree in surveying, geomatics, civil engineering, geography, architecture, construction management, or a related technical field.
- Working command of survey, geomatics, and reality capture methods sufficient to discuss accuracy, control, registration, and deliverable standards with technical clients independently
- Demonstrated ability to build and hold client relationships at the decision-making level
- Direct involvement in business development, including pursuits you helped originate, shape, or win, together with a clear ambition to make business development the center of your role
- Comfort representing a firm publicly, whether through client presentations, conference participation, or association involvement
- Sound commercial judgment, meaning you can explain pursuit decisions you have made and what you learned from the ones that went wrong
- Willingness to travel across the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast, with periodic national travel and travel to the Caribbean
- Eligibility to obtain and hold a United States government security clearance
What strengthens your candidacy
Public-sector experience and a formal business development track record are the strongest differentiators for this seat. Public-sector experience includes federal, state, local, and DOT work. The firm will support a candidate who is building in those areas.
- Virginia licensure, or eligibility to obtain it by comity
- Federal contracting experience, which may include SF 330 submissions, IDIQ and MATOC vehicles, GSA Schedules, or small business programs
- State department of transportation or local government contracting experience, which may include on-call survey contracts, DOT prequalification, or task order work
- A record of carrying a business development target and the compensation structure that came with it
- BIM and VDC experience, including Scan-to-BIM workflows and Revit or Autodesk Construction Cloud environments
- GIS and geospatial analytics experience, including work on the Esri platform
- Dimensional metrology or industrial measurement experience
- Experience with Leica, Trimble, FARO, or NavVis platforms
- An active security clearance
- Spanish language capability, which supports the firm's Puerto Rico operations
- Association leadership in SAME, NSPS, a state surveying society, ASPRS, or a comparable organization
