Director of Application Engineering

Applications Lead Interim – 12 months – Remote UK Based

Director of Application Engineering used as no suitable Applications Lead title available for advertising.

You will need to have operated in a senior role with accountability for significant resources with knowledge of M365 services and ERPs such as D365, SAP etc.

Key Deliverables

• Applications baseline established and immediate stabilisation actions agreed, covering critical business applications, service and product ownership, supplier accountabilities, team structure, operational priorities and decisions required. Highest-risk issues contained, quick wins delivered and named owners assigned.
• Applications stabilisation and recovery roadmap agreed, with priority actions delivered, portfolio and lifecycle controls in place, supplier performance reset, and clear plans for support, resilience, access, integration, obsolescence and modern workplace services.
• Drive delivery of the agreed roadmap at pace, resolve structural risks, rationalise the application and supplier landscape, improve service performance and colleague experience, strengthen internal capability and transfer product and technical ownership against agreed milestones.

You will:

• Lead the design and mobilisation of the Applications pillar and its interfaces.
• Establish application portfolio, ownership, lifecycle, support and roadmap controls.
• Lead Microsoft 365 services, governance and application-access design.
• Establish an effective data & reporting service
• Improve the colleague technology experience while protecting business continuity.
• Own applications service performance and the prioritised change portfolio, ensuring incidents, problems, risks, technical debt and business change are managed through a single, transparent set of priorities. Intervene directly where critical services, suppliers or programmes are not performing.
• Develop internal capability and progressively transfer product and technical ownership.

You will need to be able to demonstrate the following experience to be considered for this work:

• Senior applications and modern-workplace leadership experience.
• Experience establishing application portfolio and product-management discipline.
• Strong knowledge of applications; D365, SAP, Power BI etc.
• The ability to personally create standards, roadmaps, support models, process designs and governance packs.
• Commercial awareness and a strong focus on business continuity and colleague experience.
• Large supplier estate
• C-suite reporting
• Strong relationship builder at all levels of the organisation -

Ideally you will have worked in environments that have had M&A activity or are PE backed but these are not essential requirements. Working in sectors such as manufacturing, engineering, utilities. telecoms will again be helpful when it comes to the Operational Technology element.
