Empowering Financial Futures.

For more than 65 years, Glenmede’s independent ownership, innovation and unwavering commitment to our clients have made us a trusted partner for private wealth, endowment & foundation, and investment management clients.

Our people are invaluable. Through a team-oriented environment, your knowledge, expertise and varied backgrounds contribute to thoughtful innovation. Our culture fosters opportunities for continuous career growth and development in all areas of the organization. Working at Glenmede, you will experience the infrastructure and resources of a large firm combined with the client and employee focus of an independently owned boutique.

This position will operate in a hybrid work environment, 3 days per week in the office (Philadelphia, PA).

OVERVIEW:

The Director of Architecture and Engineering is a senior leader and manager within Glenmede’s technology team. The Director leads a team of technologists including managers, individual contributors and third party resources. The team is responsible for the foundational technology that all lines of business and employees rely on every day.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Three strategic priorities will be critical to first year success: envisioning a modernization roadmap for the CRM and internal transaction/workflow platform, designing the data foundation the firm's artificial intelligence capabilities require, and enabling data strategy and governance.

Platform Architecture

  • Oversee the target-state architecture and technical roadmaps for the client relationship management (Salesforce) platform, the enterprise data management platform (Gresham Opus EDM), the internally built transaction and workflow platform, and the data, middleware and document storage services supporting them.
  • Partner with the team members responsible for vendor strategy, application management, cybersecurity and infrastructure to maintain a cost-effective and risk-controlled ecosystem.

Engineering Delivery

  • Create structured accountability for delivery across engineering teams.
  • Establish reliable capacity planning, delivery commitments and report metrics to facilitate clarity with initiative planning and ongoing management.

Transaction Platform Modernization

  • Lead analysis of the firm's internal transaction and workflow platform to determine the best long-term path for modernization.

Data Architecture for Artificial Intelligence

  • Design and deliver the data foundation the firm's artificial intelligence capabilities depend on. This includes strategic decisions such as the implementation of an enterprise document repository, a data lakehouse, and more.
  • Evaluate buy versus build options, comparing commercial products against custom development with a total cost of ownership framework.

Data Strategy and Governance

  • Partner with Chief Technology Officer, Chief Information Security Officer, Chief Product Officer, and business partners to establish effective data strategy and governance.
  • Maintain authoritative definitions for the firm's core data elements and document lineage. Deliver stakeholder reporting and dashboards so that business users can own their assigned data domains.

Organization and Talent

  • Evaluate career growth paths for the team and strengthen the organization for the future with a talent strategy.
  • Expand documentation and cross-training across the team so expertise is shared broadly, giving individuals the chance to grow into new roles and responsibilities.
  • Review roles and responsibilities across the team to ensure they reflect a coherent organization structure where each team member is positioned to effectively meet their annual goals.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, data science, or a related field is required.
  • 10+ years of technology experience, including 5+ years leading software development or platform engineering organizations.
  • Experience leading a technology organization of 10 or more people.
  • Strong hands-on architecture and engineering background across enterprise applications, cloud services, SaaS platforms, APIs, middleware, integrations, automation, data services, and document platforms.
  • Experience evaluating third-party software and presenting buy or build recommendations supported by total cost of ownership analysis.
  • Experience establishing data governance, including data ownership, authoritative definitions, lineage, and quality standards.
  • Experience in financial services.
  • Demonstrated ability to explain technology tradeoffs, cost, and risk to executives.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience at a bank, trust company, investment manager, or a wealth management firm is preferred.
  • Experience modernizing or replacing a legacy custom application in a regulated environment.
  • Experience with Opus EDM, previously known as S&P Global EDM, IHS Markit EDM, and Markit EDM, or similar systems.
  • Experience with Salesforce, including Financial Services Cloud and Salesforce Architect-level experience (e.g. Application or System Architecture certification).
  • Experience delivering an enterprise document repository, a data lakehouse, or a knowledge graph in support of artificial intelligence capabilities.
  • Experience with fiduciary transaction processing, including disbursements, transfers, and corporate actions.
