Invenio Financial, a Phillips & Cohen Associates company and a leading purchaser of consumer receivables, seeks an experienced Business Development Director to support the continued growth of its debt buying business across North America. Reporting to the Chief Revenue Officer, this role is responsible for developing relationships with banks, financial institutions, and other debt sellers, securing access to new buyer panels and purchasing programs, and creating new portfolio acquisition opportunities. The ideal candidate will possess significant business development experience within the debt buying, collections, receivables management, or related financial services industries, along with a proven ability to build strategic relationships and generate results in a highly specialized market.

This is a remote U.S.-based position. Preference will be given to candidates located within commuting distance of our Wilmington, Delaware or Columbus, Ohio offices. Occasional travel for team meetings, client meetings, and industry events may be required.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify, develop, and pursue new debt purchasing opportunities with banks, financial institutions, creditors, collection agencies, and other portfolio sellers.
  • Build and maintain relationships with prospective sellers to expand Invenio's access to debt portfolios and acquisition opportunities.
  • Lead efforts to secure approval on buyer panels and approved purchaser programs.
  • Manage opportunities from initial outreach through internal evaluation, approval, and acquisition review processes.
  • Partner with Analytics, Operations, and senior leadership to assess portfolio opportunities and support acquisition decisions.
  • Maintain an active pipeline of opportunities and relationship activity within Salesforce.
  • Monitor market activity, industry trends, and emerging opportunities within the debt buying and receivables management sectors.
  • Represent Invenio at industry conferences, networking events, and other business development activities as appropriate.
  • Provide regular updates regarding pipeline activity, seller relationships, and business development efforts.
  • Support the achievement of organizational growth and capital deployment objectives through the development of a sustainable acquisition pipeline.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Marketing, or a related field; equivalent professional experience will be considered.
  • Seven (7) or more years of business development, sales, acquisitions, or relationship management experience within the debt buying, debt collections, receivables management, or consumer receivables industry.
  • Established relationships within and demonstrated knowledge of the debt buying ecosystem, including creditors, portfolio sellers, debt buyers, collection agencies, and other industry participants.
  • Proven track record of developing new business opportunities and building strategic relationships within the receivables management or financial services sector.
  • Experience identifying and pursuing portfolio acquisition opportunities and navigating institutional sales processes.
  • Strong understanding of buyer panel, vendor onboarding, and relationship management processes.
  • Proficiency with customer relationship management (CRM) platforms.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and drive results with minimal supervision.
  • Familiarity with Receivables Management Association International (RMAI) and other relevant industry organizations preferred.
  • Willingness and eligibility to travel at times, including internationally and/or across multiple time zones.
