Position Overview
The Department of Health, Government of New Brunswick, is seeking an experienced Director of Clinical Informatics (BA3) to support the Symbio Provincial Clinical Information Solution Program. Symbio is a province-wide healthcare transformation initiative focused on replacing fragmented hospital information systems, paper-based clinical records, and disconnected applications with a unified, standardized, and integrated Clinical Information Solution (CIS).
Reporting to the Chief Clinical Information Officer (CCIO) for the Symbio Program and working closely with the CCIO and Chief Nursing Information Officer (CNIO), the successful candidate will establish, mature, and sustain the clinical informatics capabilities, operating methodologies, governance structures, and delivery practices required for the program.
This senior leadership role will oversee the day-to-day delivery of clinical informatics activities across a multi-site acute care health system, ensuring that provincial clinical workflows are standardized while accommodating approved local variations across large, medium, and small hospitals. The Director will bridge clinical stakeholders, physicians, nursing professionals, clinical operations, informatics specialists, and technical EHR/CIS build teams to ensure that the solution reflects approved clinical requirements and supports patient safety, clinical quality, operational readiness, and effective clinician adoption.
The successful candidate will also mentor New Brunswick program personnel, transfer knowledge, and develop sustainable internal capabilities to support the long-term operation and continuous improvement of the provincial clinical information solution.
Key Responsibilities
1. Clinical Informatics Strategy and Program Delivery
  • Work with the CCIO and CNIO to establish and maintain a sustainable clinical informatics operating model, methodology, and integrated workplan aligned with the Symbio Prepare, Adopt, and Improve journey.
  • Lead the day-to-day execution of clinical informatics activities across steady-state operations and project-based initiatives.

  • Establish consistent clinical workflow standards applicable to large, medium, and small hospital facilities.
  • Lead the implementation and localization of standardized workflows to accommodate facility-specific operational needs while preserving provincial standards.
  • Assess proposed local variations, document their rationale, evaluate their impact, and support formal review and approval through established governance processes.
  • Ensure workflow design promotes consistency, efficiency, patient safety, and effective care delivery across participating facilities.
3. Physician and Clinician Engagement
  • Develop and execute engagement and advocacy approaches for physician groups, nursing professionals, and other clinical stakeholders.
  • Engage physician leads and frontline clinicians in clinical workflow design, EHR/CIS configuration decisions, validation, and implementation planning.
