Data and AI | Consulting | Energy and Utilities

A rare opportunity to lead the growth of a Data and AI offering across Australiaโ€™s Energy and Utilities sector.

This is a commercially focused Director role for someone who knows how to sell and deliver analytics projects, build senior relationships and grow a team around the work they win.

You will join a growing team with established Energy and Utilities relationships, strong technical delivery capability and deep sector experts to go to market alongside, with a genuine opportunity to build a market and team behind you.

Where do you come in?

You are commercially minded, technically credible and relationship-led.

You have delivered analytics projects in a consulting environment and you know how to sell them. You are technically deep enough to be credible with senior clients and heads of data, without needing to be the hands-on analytics expert. A strong technical team sits behind you for that.

You can listen to a client conversation, pick up the real needs and pain points, and turn them into a creative, innovative proposition that opens the door to a sale and a project.

You do not need to have spent your whole career in Energy and Utilities. What matters is that you have worked on a number of energy (preferred) or utilities client projects, enough to hold a credible conversation about the sector and speak the language, while experienced industry leaders in the team bring the deeper market credibility.

This is not a classic sales role. You will be focused on helping clients solve problems, building relationships first and treating sales as part of the process.

Challenge and opportunity

You will help expand the Energy and Utilities market nationally, with a focus on energy retailers, distributors and transmission businesses.

The opportunity includes:

  • Building senior client relationships and creating new opportunities
  • Shaping client pain points into compelling analytics and AI propositions
  • Selling data and AI as part of broader transformation programs
  • Leading the work you sell, with an eventual 50/50 delivery and sales split
  • Going to market alongside deep Energy and Utilities experts and leveraging their established relationships
  • Building and developing a team behind you as the capability grows

You will be supported by a deep technical team across analytics, AI engineering, software engineering and data architecture, alongside experienced Energy and Utilities industry leaders.

What you will be doing

  • Leading market development and business growth across Energy and Utilities
  • Building and maintaining senior relationships with clients, heads of data and industry stakeholders
  • Listening for client needs and pain points, and shaping them into innovative propositions and pitches
  • Identifying, shaping and converting data, analytics and AI opportunities
  • Selling analytics as part of broader transformation, infrastructure and consulting programs
  • Leading delivery across the engagements you win
  • Working closely with technical teams to understand problems and develop credible solutions
  • Leading senior client discussions, workshops and proposals
  • Building, developing and growing the Energy and Utilities Data and AI team

What we are looking for

  • A consulting background (mandatory)
  • A proven track record delivering analytics projects
  • The ability to credibly sell analytics, technically deep enough to engage senior clients and heads of data, without needing to be the hands-on technical expert
  • Experience building and developing analytics teams
  • Experience working on a number of energy (preferred) or utilities client projects across your career, enough to speak the language and hold a credible sector conversation
  • Demonstrated sales and business-development capability with capacity to generate sales
  • A creative, consultative approach to turning client pain points into propositions
  • Ability to speak to practical AI applications in the Energy and Utilities sector
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
  • Experience balancing client leadership, sales and delivery across multiple priorities
  • Sydney-based

Non-essentials (but nice to have)

  • An established network across Energy and Utilities organisations
  • A background in data analytics or data science, though candidates from engineering or other quantitative disciplines are also welcome

Culture and work style

This team values intellectual curiosity, practical problem-solving and collaborative delivery.

You will work closely with technical specialists and Energy and Utilities leaders who bring deep industry knowledge, infrastructure experience and established client relationships. The environment rewards people who can build trust, work as part of a team and turn sophisticated technical capability into meaningful client outcomes.
