Pavion is seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) to lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the company's environmental, health, and safety programs across its operations.

This individual will establish a consistent, proactive safety culture throughout the organization, supporting field technicians, installation teams, project managers, service personnel, warehouse operations, and corporate employees. The Director will partner with executive leadership, regional and business unit leaders, Human Resources, Operations, and project teams to identify and mitigate risks, ensure compliance with applicable regulations, and drive measurable improvements in workplace safety.

The ideal candidate combines strategic leadership with hands-on operational experience in construction, electrical contracting, fire and life-safety systems, security integration, or a related technical services environment. This leader will be responsible for developing scalable safety programs that support Pavion's continued growth while ensuring employees and subcontractors have the training, tools, and resources necessary to work safely.

Primary Responsibilities:

EH&S Strategy and Leadership

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive, company-wide EH&S strategy aligned with Pavion's business objectives, operational requirements, and commitment to employee safety.
  • Establish standardized safety policies, procedures, programs, and performance expectations across business units and geographic regions.
  • Build and promote a proactive safety culture that emphasizes accountability, employee engagement, hazard recognition, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with executive leadership and operational leaders to integrate safety into business planning, project execution, and day-to-day operations.
  • Establish measurable EH&S objectives, key performance indicators (KPIs), and reporting processes to monitor performance and drive accountability.
  • Provide regular updates to executive leadership regarding safety performance, emerging risks, regulatory developments, and improvement initiatives.

Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local environmental, health, and safety regulations, including OSHA and EPA requirements.
  • Maintain and continuously improve EH&S policies and programs applicable to field service, construction, installation, maintenance, warehouse, and office environments.
  • Conduct risk assessments, job hazard analyses, site safety reviews, and operational audits to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of required safety documentation, records, permits, and compliance reporting.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and communicate their potential impact to the organization.
  • Support regulatory inspections, investigations, and interactions with applicable government agencies.
  • Evaluate insurance, workers' compensation, and operational loss trends to identify opportunities for risk reduction in partnership with the appropriate internal stakeholders.

Field and Project Safety

  • Establish safety standards for technicians, installers, project managers, service personnel, and subcontractors working at customer locations and construction sites.
  • Ensure appropriate programs are in place for electrical safety, fall protection, ladder and lift safety, lockout/tagout, personal protective equipment (PPE), hazard communication, and other relevant workplace hazards.
  • Partner with Operations and Project Management to incorporate safety planning into project mobilization, customer-site requirements, and field execution.
  • Develop processes to assess customer-site conditions, identify hazards, and establish appropriate controls before work begins.
  • Establish and oversee subcontractor safety qualification, onboarding, training, and performance-monitoring requirements.
  • Promote consistent adherence to customer-specific safety requirements and applicable site access and work authorization procedures.
  • Conduct periodic field visits and site inspections to verify compliance and reinforce safe work practices.

Training and Safety Culture

  • Develop and oversee company-wide EH&S training programs tailored to employees' roles, responsibilities, and exposure to workplace hazards.
  • Ensure employees receive required safety orientations, refresher training, and task-specific instruction.
  • Equip managers and supervisors with the knowledge and resources necessary to lead safety discussions, conduct job hazard assessments, and address unsafe conditions.
  • Promote employee participation in safety meetings, toolbox talks, hazard reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Establish effective communication channels for sharing safety alerts, lessons learned, and best practices across the organization.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness and maintain appropriate training records and certifications.

Incident Management and Continuous Improvement

  • Lead or oversee the investigation of workplace injuries, near misses, property damage, environmental incidents, and other safety-related events.
  • Identify root causes and implement corrective and preventive actions to reduce the likelihood of recurrence.
  • Track incident trends, recordable injuries, lost-time incidents, near misses, and corrective action completion.
  • Partner with Human Resources, Operations, and other stakeholders on workers' compensation cases, return-to-work coordination, and appropriate workplace accommodations.
  • Develop and implement initiatives to reduce injury frequency, severity, lost workdays, and associated costs.
  • Ensure timely and accurate incident reporting in accordance with applicable legal and company requirements.

Environmental Management

  • Oversee environmental compliance programs applicable to Pavion's operations, including hazardous materials management, waste disposal, spill prevention, and other relevant environmental requirements.
  • Establish procedures for the appropriate handling, storage, transportation, and disposal of regulated materials where applicable.
  • Assess environmental risks associated with field operations, facilities, equipment, and project activities.
  • Maintain required environmental documentation and coordinate inspections, reporting, and corrective actions as needed.
  • Promote responsible environmental practices and continuous improvement in environmental performance.

Business Integration and Organizational Growth

  • Collaborate with Operations, Human Resources, Legal, Fleet, and business unit leadership to align safety practices with broader business processes.
  • Support the integration of acquired businesses by assessing existing safety programs, identifying gaps, and implementing consistent company standards.
  • Develop scalable policies, training resources, and reporting tools that support a growing, geographically dispersed organization.
  • Evaluate EH&S systems, technology, and processes to improve visibility, standardization, and operational efficiency.
  • Build relationships with customers, subcontractors, insurance partners, and external safety professionals to strengthen the company's overall risk management approach.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Industrial Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in environmental health and safety, occupational safety, or risk management, including leadership responsibility.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing EH&S programs across multiple locations, business units, or field-based operations.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and applicable environmental compliance requirements.
  • Experience supporting construction, electrical contracting, industrial services, fire protection, security integration, facilities services, or a related technical field environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct risk assessments, safety audits, incident investigations, root-cause analyses, and corrective action planning.
  • Experience developing safety training programs and influencing safe work practices among field employees, managers, and subcontractors.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders at all organizational levels and drive accountability without relying solely on formal authority.
  • Willingness to travel to field locations, customer sites, and company facilities as business needs require.
  • International Safety Regulations a plus

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, or a related discipline.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or another relevant professional certification.
  • Experience managing EH&S programs in a multi-state, multi-site organization.
  • Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, and integration of safety programs across diverse operating businesses.

  • Experience implementing EH&S management systems, digital safety platforms, and company-wide compliance reporting.
  • Knowledge of NFPA standards and electrical safety standards relevant to fire protection, life-safety systems, and electrical installation work.
