NDWA was founded in 2007 by organizers and worker leaders in six cities representing nannies, house cleaners, and care workers, and now represents an alliance of more than 76 organizations across 22 states and 395,000 domestic workers nationally. POSITION SUMMARY The National Domestic Workers Alliance ( www.domesticworkers.org ) is the leading national voice for dignity, respect, and recognition for domestic workers in the United States. Through leadership development, strategic campaigns, and alliance building, we are building a powerful movement rooted in the human rights, dignity, and equality of domestic workers, care workers, immigrant women, and women of color. Care in Action seeks a strategic, detail-oriented, and mission-driven Director of Finance to lead financial management across Care in Action (501(c)(4)), its PAC, and affiliated entities including NDWA Labs. Reporting to the VP of Finance, this role serves as the primary financial steward for Care in Action, with responsibility for budgeting, financial reporting, treasury management, audit, grants compliance, and financial governance. The Director of Finance manages monthly close, expense and treasury approvals, and intercompany transactions across multiple entities; serves as Board Treasurer and the lead point of contact for external auditors; and works in close coordination with NDWA's accounting team, the Development department, legal/compliance staff, and senior leadership to ensure the financial health, accuracy, and sustainability of the organization. Primary Responsibilities: Budget Management and Financial Reporting Play a leading role in the annual budget process by supporting key staff in developing program budgets; providing accurate reports on budget vs. actuals, income projections—including both restricted and unrestricted funding—and progress on funding deliverables. Prepare timely financial packages for Care in Action and NDWA Labs; ensure monthly close occurs by the 15th of each month with reports completed by the 20th. Ensure accurate coding of revenue and expenses to various programs and departments. Review monthly revenues with the AR team, ensuring accurate classification of restricted and unrestricted funds. Responsible for regular revenue reconciliation with the Development team. Update and maintain the Temporarily Restricted Net Assets (TRNA) schedule; tracking monthly releases. Maintain and update the Chart of Accounts for both CiA and CiA PAC. Prepare payroll coding sheets and upload journal entries as needed. Coordinate with Legal/Compliance to ensure payroll allocations are updated regularly. Expense Approvals and Treasury Management Review and approve all expenses for CiA, NDWA Labs, and the PAC, including staff reimbursements. Hold expense and invoice approvals in Bill.com. Handle occasional treasury functions including managing investments, approving disbursements, and managing cash flow. Maintain appropriate cash balances in line with organizational policy. Authorize the transfer of funds for electoral work advances; track PAC prepayments and their drawdown. Approve invoices for inter-company charges between entities. Responsible for ensuring monthly close of accounts. III. Grants and Development Support Work closely with the Development team to ensure the timely conduct of grant processes including application, documentation, reimbursements, and audit requirements. Support the Development team in preparing restricted grant reports and proposals, including reviewing deliverables in Salesforce. Audit and Compliance Serve as the lead point of contact for auditors in annual audits. Update and implement financial policies and procedures to ensure compliance and efficiency in all aspects of financial management. Ensure consistent implementation of CiA’s financial handbook and financial manual. Board and Leadership Engagement Prepare and present financial updates and budget materials to the CiA board; conduct meetings with CiA management and the board. Promote the organization’s financial health by providing financial updates and responding to requests from the Executive Director and the Leadership Team. Serve as Board Treasurer for Care in Action. Affiliate Financial Management (NDWA Labs) Ensure the accuracy and compliance of day-to-day financial accounting functions and processes for Care in Action and affiliated entities, such as NDWA Labs. Prepare financial reports for the same. QUALIFICATIONS Required 5+ years of progressive financial management experience, preferably in a nonprofit or advocacy organization. Experience working with 501(c)(4) organizations and/or Political Action Committees (PACs), including familiarity with the distinct compliance and reporting requirements of c4 entities. Demonstrated ability to prepare, analyze, and present financial statements, budget vs. actual reports, and cash flow projections. Strong understanding of restricted and unrestricted fund accounting, grant financial reporting, and nonprofit revenue recognition. Experience managing an audit process and working with external auditors. Ability to manage multiple entities simultaneously, including intercompany transactions and allocations. Excellent organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to translate complex financial information for non-finance staff and board members. Ability to work independently in a remote environment with a distributed team. Alignment with NDWA’s and Care in Action’s mission, vision, and values. Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent credential a plus. Proficiency with Financial Edge (Blackbaud) accounting software. Experience with Martus budgeting software or comparable budget management tools. Experience with Divvy, Bill.com, Expensify, or similar expense management platforms. Familiarity with Salesforce for grant tracking and reporting. Experience in a multi-entity nonprofit environment involving a 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), and/or PAC. Prior experience coordinating with the Board of Directors. Demonstrated commitment to racial, economic, and gender justice.
