What’s the Role?
The Director, HRIS leads the IT-side management and delivery of Workday and its supporting technology ecosystem. This role is responsible for platform health, technical delivery, governance, and support across configuration, security, integrations, reporting, data, testing, and releases.
The Director combines strong Workday expertise with people and partner leadership, translating business priorities into scalable, secure, and sustainable solutions while building internal capability and reducing reliance on external partners.
Responsibilities
Workday Platform & Delivery
- Own the technical health, administration, and delivery of Workday across configuration, business processes, security, integrations, reporting, data, testing, releases, and production support.
- Lead Workday enhancements, projects, issue resolution, and technical changes while managing backlog, capacity, dependencies, and delivery priorities.
- Establish and enforce technical design, documentation, testing, change-control, and support standards.
- Provide technical direction for complex Workday solutions and escalations, ensuring solutions are scalable, secure, maintainable, and aligned with enterprise standards.
- Monitor platform health, technical debt, recurring issues, and integration failures and drive appropriate remediation.
Security, Data & Controls
- Oversee Workday security, access controls, data integrity, and technical controls in alignment with enterprise security, data governance, and audit requirements.
- Partner with Information Security, Internal Audit, and technology teams to support compliance, access reviews, audit readiness, and remediation.
- Maintain effective controls and monitoring across Workday and its integrations with payroll, workforce management, benefits, identity, finance, and other enterprise systems.
Team & Partner Leadership
- Lead and develop Workday functional and technical resources with clear ownership and accountability across the platform.
- Build internal capability through coaching, documentation, cross-training, and knowledge transfer.
- Direct consulting and managed-service partners, challenging recommendations and holding partners accountable for solution quality, delivery, and knowledge transfer.
- Progressively transitions appropriate Workday knowledge and ownership from external partners to internal resources.
Business & Technology Partnership
- Partner with HR, Payroll, Benefits, Finance, and technology teams to translate business requirements into effective Workday solutions.
- Communicate technical options, risks, dependencies, and capacity constraints and escalate material platform or architectural decisions as appropriate.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of progressive HRIS, Workday, or enterprise applications experience, including significant Workday functional and technical expertise.
- 3+ years of experience leading teams or significant enterprise platform delivery.
- Strong knowledge of Workday configuration, business processes, security, integrations, reporting, and data.
- Experience supporting Workday in a complex production environment, including testing, releases, controls, and production support.
- Experience managing Workday consulting, implementation, or managed-service partners.
- Strong leadership, communication, stakeholder-management, and problem-solving skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business, Human Resources, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
