Position Overview:
Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever are seeking a Director of Planned Giving to help build and lead a comprehensive planned giving program. This individual will identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors capable of making bequests, trusts, gift annuities, beneficiary designations, and other deferred gifts that advance the organizations' mission of conserving pheasants, quail, and other wildlife through habitat improvement, public access, education, and conservation advocacy.
The Director will work closely with the philanthropy team, development officers, and volunteers to grow a pipeline of legacy commitments, while also managing an existing portfolio of planned giving prospects and donors. This is a high-visibility role for a relationship-driven fundraiser who wants to combine technical gift planning expertise with a genuine passion for conservation.

Responsibilities and Expectations:
- Help design, launch, and manage a comprehensive planned giving program, including bequests, charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder and lead trusts, retirement plan and life insurance beneficiary designations, and gifts of real estate or other complex assets.
- Build and manage a personal portfolio of planned giving prospects and donors, conducting regular in-person, phone, and virtual visits to identify interests and solicit legacy gifts.
- Partner with development officers and regional staff to integrate planned giving conversations into broader donor cultivation strategies.
- Help develop marketing materials, direct mail and digital campaigns, and educational seminars to promote planned giving opportunities to members, volunteers, and donors.
- Serve as one of the organization's subject-matter experts on gift planning vehicles and tax implications, working with donors' attorneys, financial advisors, and estate planners as appropriate.
- Maintain accurate donor records, gift documentation, and relationship-management activity in the CRM/database; produce regular pipeline and revenue reports for leadership.
- Collaborate with leadership on the administration, acceptance, and stewardship of complex and deferred gifts, including gift agreements and estate settlements.
- Steward existing legacy society members through recognition events, personalized communications, and ongoing relationship management.
- Represent Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever at national conventions, banquets, and regional events to promote planned giving and cultivate prospects.
- Stay current on tax law, estate planning trends, and best practices in gift planning, sharing relevant updates with the development team and donors.
- A strong passion for Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever’s mission.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional fundraising experience, with at least 2 years focused specifically on planned/gift planning.
- Demonstrated track record of soliciting and closing planned gifts (bequests, trusts, annuities, or similar vehicles).
- Working knowledge of estate planning concepts, charitable gift vehicles, and relevant tax law as it pertains to charitable giving.
- Proficiency with donor database/CRM systems and Microsoft Office.
- Willingness and ability to travel.
- Gift planning vehicle structuring and donor education.
- CRM/database management and gift reporting.
- Relationship-management and pipeline tracking.
- Working knowledge of nonprofit gift acceptance policies.
- Exceptional relationship-building and listening skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication and public speaking.
- High degree of discretion, integrity, and donor confidentiality.
- Self-directed, organized, and able to manage a complex, long-cycle portfolio.
- Collaborative team player who partners well across departments.
