Director of Technical Strategy & Education
Remote | UK / Europe | $170,000–$200,000 Base + Bonus
Lead a 30-person technical team. Own the strategy behind 100+ technical courses. Help shape how engineers learn Cloud, DevOps, Kubernetes and AI.
We're partnering with a profitable, founder-led technology education business that's transforming how engineers develop real-world technical skills.
With an established global customer base and ambitious expansion plans, the business is looking for a technically credible leader to take ownership of its curriculum strategy, technical content quality and delivery operations.
This is not a traditional education role.
We're particularly interested in speaking with experienced Engineering Managers, Directors of Engineering and Technical Education Leaders who enjoy combining technology, people leadership and commercial decision-making.
The opportunity
Reporting directly to the CEO, you'll lead a distributed team of approximately 30 people, with plans to expand towards 50.
You'll take responsibility for:
- Technical strategy: Define the roadmap for courses and hands-on labs across Cloud, DevOps, Kubernetes, Linux and emerging AI technologies.
- Leadership: Manage and scale a multidisciplinary team of technical trainers, lab engineers, content specialists and programme managers.
- Commercial performance: Establish KPIs, manage budgets, analyse trends and make data-driven decisions on where to invest.
- Technical quality: Ensure courses and labs meet high technical standards, with the credibility to challenge technical decisions and review code where required.
- Operational delivery: Oversee an ambitious production roadmap of approximately 100 courses over the next year.
- Innovation: Identify opportunities to improve technical learning through automation, AI-assisted workflows and new approaches to hands-on education.
Who we're looking for
You may currently be a Senior Engineering Manager, Director of Engineering, Head of Technical Education or in a similar leadership position.
Ideally, you'll bring:
- Strong technical foundations across cloud infrastructure, DevOps, Kubernetes or software engineering.
- Experience leading and scaling distributed technical teams through other managers or team leads.
- A commercial and analytical mindset, including experience with budgets, forecasting, KPIs and operational performance.
- Enough hands-on technical knowledge to assess the quality of code, technical labs and learning experiences.
- An entrepreneurial approach, comfortable working in a fast-moving environment without excessive corporate structure.
- An interest in technical education, developer enablement or helping engineers develop their capabilities.
Previous curriculum or education leadership experience is advantageous, but not essential.
We're equally interested in engineering leaders looking for a broader strategic opportunity.
Why consider this opportunity?
- Direct reporting line to the founder and CEO.
- Genuine ownership of technical strategy and a substantial global team.
- Opportunity to shape an established, profitable and growing business.
- Significant influence over how engineers learn emerging technologies.
- Fully remote position with international collaboration.
- Competitive base salary of $170,000–$200,000 plus bonus.
Location
Remote, Europe-based. UK and Ireland are particularly attractive locations due to collaboration requirements across international teams.
