What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the AVP of Operational Risk Management and Controls Programs, the Director, Change Initiative Risk Assessment (CIRA), Operational Risk Programs, leads CIBC’s enterprise-wide CIRA Program within Global Operational Risk Management. The program provides a consistent, disciplined approach to identifying and assessing the inherent risks arising from change initiatives, evaluating mitigation plans and clarifying accountability across the three lines of defence, while supporting strong operational risk practices and alignment with regulatory expectations.

You will define the strategic direction for CIRA and lead the continued evolution of its methodology, governance, end-to-end processes and enabling technology. You will oversee program execution and regulatory initiatives, establish effective governance and challenge, and clearly communicate the strategy and execution plan to build alignment and executive support. You will also champion simplification, automation and change management, partnering with Advanced Analytics, technology and risk stakeholders to use AI to improve the quality, consistency, efficiency and capacity of risk assessments. Building on CIRA Reimagined’s AI-enabled Applicability Assessment and generation of initial CIRA drafts, you will advance capabilities such as AI-enabled challenge, mitigation recommendations and model calibration, while ensuring risks arising from significant change are identified early, clearly understood and appropriately mitigated in alignment with the CIBC Way.

At CIBC, we enable the work environment best suited for you to thrive in your role. You will have the flexibility to manage your work within a hybrid arrangement, spending two to three days per week on-site and working remotely on other days.

How you’ll succeed

  • Program Leadership and Governance – Lead the enterprise-wide CIRA Program, including its strategy, methodology, governance, execution, guidance and continuous improvement, ensuring CIRA remains effective, practical and aligned with CIBC’s operational risk management approach.
  • Strategy, Transformation and Change – Set and execute the future vision for CIRA, translating regulatory expectations into practical, sustainable improvements. Continue to simplify and redesign the end-to-end process, supported by disciplined change management, to improve risk outcomes, engagement and the stakeholder experience.
  • Advanced Analytics and Digital Enablement – Partner with Advanced Analytics, technology and risk stakeholders to embed AI and automation into CIRA, building on the AI-enabled Applicability Assessment, drafting capabilities and emerging challenge and mitigation capabilities to improve efficiency, consistency and program capacity.
  • Risk Management, Compliance and Challenge – Strengthen how CIBC identifies, assesses, challenges and mitigates risks arising from change initiatives. Ensure the CIRA methodology supports appropriate risk identification, mitigation effectiveness assessment and residual risk determination. Maintain continuous audit readiness by monitoring compliance with CIRA standards, sustaining clear and complete evidence, promptly addressing gaps, and demonstrating that program requirements are operating effectively.
  • Stakeholder Leadership – Build strong partnerships across the lines of defence and with senior business stakeholders. Communicate CIRA strategy, requirements, priorities and program changes clearly, while creating alignment around effective management of change initiative risk.
  • Results Driven – Translate strategy and regulatory expectations into practical, sustainable improvements. Establish effective program management disciplines and use data, feedback and program outcomes to prioritize enhancements and measure success.
  • Thought Leadership and Team Development – Lead, coach and develop a high-performing CIRA team. Foster a culture of curiosity, collaboration, innovation and accountability while building the skills required to operate an increasingly digital and AI-enabled risk program.
