What You Will Own
  • The global Financial Crime strategy across AML and sanctions - setting the vision, OKRs and roadmap to protect Zepz customers and the business.
  • End-to-end ownership of AML controls, Sanctions screening, and typology analysis. You will participate in budget planning for third party spend across financial crime.
  • Driving growth through more accurate financial crime controls, taking calculated risks based on Zepz risk appetite and reducing false positives
  • Key FinCrime KPIs and regulatory outcomes, including customer experience metrics, fraud loss rates, detection precision, SAR timeliness, and audit findings.
  • Relationships with key stakeholders across the business and external partners and vendors. You will also engage with the nine different regulators for Zepz.

You Will Achieve This By:
  • Leading the Financial Crime domain with passion and resilience across AML & screening.
  • Defining and executing a unified Financial Crime strategy aligned to Zepz’s product, growth and risk appetite.
  • Using data to gain insights and make decisions to strengthen controls and reduce friction for customers.
  • Making tough prioritisation calls - making a compelling case for the customer outcome you’ll achieve, the KPI’s you’ll move or risk you’ll mitigate.
  • Operating within a cross-functional team structure including partnering closely with Engineering, Product, Compliance, and Customer Ops leaders.
  • Identifying, evaluating, and working with third party technology vendors to stay ahead of the curve - rapidly launching POCs.
  • Being a player / coach. You can lead initiatives across multiple teams, but also dive into the detail and set the bar for outputs as an individual contributor.

What You Bring To The Table:
  • 10+ years’ leadership experience in Financial Crime, Fraud, or AML within fintech, payments, or financial services.
  • Strong analytical and data-driven mindset — comfortable using metrics, dashboards, and ML outputs to guide decisions.
  • Deep understanding of fraud prevention, AML/CFT frameworks, sanctions, and regulatory expectations (FCA, FinCEN, NBB, FATF).
  • Credibility with regulators, auditors, and senior executives; clear and articulate communicator.
  • Demonstrated success in driving transformation, automation, and control maturity across FinCrime functions.
  • Empathetic and inspiring leader who can coach and develop senior managers and foster a high-performance culture.

Bonus Points:
  • Experience integrating AI/ML models for transaction monitoring, fraud, risk scoring, or behaviour analysis.
  • Prior leadership experience in a remittance or crypto regulated business.
  • Subject matter knowledge of payments, cards, stablecoins, ACH.
  • Strong network across FinCrime industry groups, regulators, and law enforcement partnerships.
  • Track record of managing remediation or enforcement-driven improvement programmes.

AI Literacy & Tools
As Zepz continues to build AI into how we work, we expect everyone to engage with it as a core part of their role. For this position we are looking for:
  • A genuine curiosity about AI and how it can be applied in your area of work, from accelerating analysis and insight generation, to improving how we design and deliver processes and communications.
  • Practical experience using AI tools in a professional context, whether to connect information, draft content, build frameworks, or create insights from data. We want people who actively use AI to increase productivity, not those who are waiting to be told to.
  • Strong AI literacy. An understanding of what AI assistants can and cannot do, how to prompt effectively, and how to critically evaluate AI-generated output before using it.
  • Awareness of the ethical considerations and responsible use of AI in the workplace, particularly in the context of sensitive data, customer experience, and compliance.
  • Prior experience using Claude (Anthropic) is a nice-to-have but not essential — what matters most is that you are genuinely engaged with AI as a tool, comfortable experimenting, and eager to share what works with your wider team

If you want to join us in our journey to help break barriers in financial access and improve lives globally, there's no better place or time to join.

Our global team of 800+ people is spread across six continents. We aspire to hire the best mix of people from former Olympians to YouTube influencers and we speak over twenty languages. This incredible diversity isn't a bonus; it's the engine that lets us serve the world.
