Director - Product Manager - Lakehouse (Asset Management)

Nuveen is seeking a seasoned leader with 15+ years of experience to own the strategy, roadmap, and end-to-end delivery of our enterprise Data Lakehouse. This is a leadership role as product manager leading team of product owners across platform and engineering , ideal for someone who has evolved from a technical or engineering background into product/platform leadership, or who has spent a career building and scaling data platforms in complex, regulated environments. The successful candidate will have deep credibility with both engineering teams and senior business stakeholders, a track record of building platforms and the organizational maturity to navigate competing priorities across multiple lines of business.
Key Responsibilities of the Role
- Own the multi-year vision and strategy for the Data Lakehouse, positioning it as foundational infrastructure for the enterprise's data and AI ambitions
- Present platform strategy, investment needs, and progress directly to senior leadership and executive stakeholders, securing sustained funding and organizational buy-in
- Own the full business case and ROI narrative for platform investment, including build-vs-buy decisions and multi-year cost/benefit tradeoffs
- Anticipate industry and technology shifts (cloud data platform evolution, AI/ML convergence with data infrastructure, emerging AWS capabilities) and translate them into forward-looking roadmap decisions
- Represent the platform in enterprise architecture governance forums, ensuring alignment with broader technology strategy
- Serve as the senior-most point of accountability between the platform organization and business/data consumer stakeholders across all lines of business
- Negotiate and arbitrate competing priorities across business units with differing platform needs, making final prioritization decisions
- Build strong partnerships with enterprise data governance, security, risk, and compliance functions to ensure the platform meets regulatory and audit expectations
- Define platform success metrics at the organizational level (adoption across business units, cost efficiency, reliability, time-to-value for new use cases) and hold the organization accountable to them
- Lead post-incident reviews and systemic root-cause analysis for major platform issues, driving structural improvements
- Continuously benchmark the platform against industry best practices and competitor/peer capabilities, driving modernization initiative

Required Experience & Qualifications:
- Domain : Asset Management Technology (Key words – Data Lakehouse, Data Product Ownership , Product Manager, Cross-Functional Leadership, Roadmap Ownership, Product Strategy, Data Lake, Lakehouse Architecture, Data Platform, Enterprise Data Platform, Data Mesh, Modern Data Stack, Data Infrastructure)
- Extensive experience in financial services, asset management, or investment management, with a clear understanding of the regulatory, risk, and audit context these industries carry
- Familiarity with the range of platform consumers typical in this domain — quants, risk teams, reporting/BI, data science, and downstream application teams — and their differing needs from the platform
- Experience with AI/ML platform integration (SageMaker, Bedrock) and how generative AI and agentic architectures are converging with data lakehouse platforms
- Prior experience standing up a lakehouse or modern data platform from a legacy or fragmented state, rather than only maintaining a mature one
- Experience with FinOps/cost optimization practices for large-scale cloud data platforms
- Commercially astute: quickly recognizes the different levers to pull to drive growth and increase productivity
- Strategic in nature, with a strong bias towards transformation and execution
- Stimulates action with a balanced leadership style of control and influence
- Decisive and operates with a sense of urgency
- Program, risk, and change management experience
- Agile proficient
