Overview

GoodPower works globally to unlock the enormous economic potential of the energy transition—more affordable energy bills, better and more abundant jobs, healthier food, economic security for families and farmers, and a better economy that works for all of us.

We operate at the intersection of digital media, smart tech, civic participation, and advocacy to reach millions of people annually with our work to: lower costs and create jobs, shift culture to transform beliefs and behaviors, and accelerate the deployment of decarbonized technologies like: renewables, regenerative agriculture and electric vehicles—one individual, one neighborhood, one community at a time.

GoodPower is at an exciting, pivotal moment as we launch our new strategic plan through 2030 to level up all areas of our work–growing our organization 5x over the next five years and relentlessly honing our skills and expertise to be the best that we can be to transform our renewable energy economy.

Job Summary

GoodPower employs a highly-skilled and professional global staff that bring diverse experiences from the private, public and nonprofit sectors. The Director, Renewables owns GoodPower's live portfolio of county-level engagements from first contact through final vote. That portfolio includes an expanding set of project engagements alongside a set of active moratoria, each carrying its own hearing calendar, ordinance clock, and local politics. Approval schedules are set by county governments and they do not move, so a missed hearing window is a lost opportunity.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Renewables this role supplies disciplined delivery against it across many county timelines running at once, plus the judgment to adapt and escalate when necessary. Campaign strategy is set at the team level.

This is a full-time, remote role based anywhere in the United States. The incumbent will operate from a home office and needs to be willing to travel and flexibility to work irregular hours.

Key Responsibilities

Campaign Ownership and Delivery

  • Own a live portfolio of county engagements end to end, from initial assessment through hearing, vote, and ordinance outcome
  • Stand up local support committees in priority counties and keep them active across the full approval timeline
  • Lead campaigns that move counties out of moratoria and into approved projects, working the ordinance and renewal clocks that govern them
  • Share and leverage subject matter expertise in community engagement, stakeholder relations, and project deployment across a variety of renewable energy technologies
  • Develop guides and collateral for engaging with local officials, stakeholders, and communities to promote renewable energy projects

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain relationships with county officials, planning and zoning staff, renewable energy developers, community leaders, funders, partners and other key stakeholders
  • Draft reports, memos, letters and other communications for stakeholders
  • Support advocacy efforts for policy and regulatory changes that streamline renewable energy deployment locally and at the state level
  • Support community engagement efforts with partners and other stakeholders, including town halls, community events, or other opportunities

Campaign Design and Execution

  • Translate team-level strategy into tailored county and state campaign plans, then lead their execution based on local conditions and community dynamics.
  • Identify opposition early and engage communities proactively, rather than responding once opposition has already organized
  • Work with local partners, governments, developers, and stakeholders to craft messaging and build coalitions in favor of renewable projects

Data, Reporting and Team Leadership

  • Keep campaign intelligence and project-tracking systems accurate and current for every county in the portfolio, so forecasting and reporting rest on live data
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Report on campaign outcomes, risks and opportunities to senior leadership, ensuring accountability and alignment with strategic objectives

Qualifications

  • 4 to 8 years running state or local political campaigns at scale, including hands-on experience in the renewable energy sector.
  • Self-starter with sound judgement who is proactive, flexible, and solutions-oriented.
  • Land-use, siting, or infrastructure approval experience.
  • Highly organized, with strong systems for managing competing priorities, tracking details, and keeping multiple workstreams moving against tight deadlines.
  • Track record of running multiple campaigns at once, setting priorities and holding timelines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional communication and writing skills, including the ability to make complex permitting and regulatory questions plain for local audiences.
  • Experience using renewable energy databases like Curate, Landgate and AI tools.
  • Experience managing budgets, vendors, and staff against hard external deadlines.
  • Demonstrated comfort working with rural communities and county board chambers.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • Direct experience with battery energy storage siting and the local politics specific to it.
  • Background in measurement and evaluation of campaigns, including both qualitative and quantitative research.
  • Experience working with renewable energy developers on project-level approvals.
