Position Summary

Illumina's BioInsight Platform Core is the application-facing software foundation on which customers manage samples and projects, store and move data, run analysis workflows, and explore results — on the BioInsight Platform (cloud and on-prem) and in customer cloud environments. As Director of Software Technical Product Management — BioInsight Platform Core, you own the product strategy that makes these capabilities the durable home for Illumina software applications. These are the surfaces historically delivered as Illumina Connected Analytics (ICA) and related platform experiences.

You lead a team of 4-6 Product Managers that shape data storage and data movement, workflow and pipeline execution, sample and project management, notebooks and interactive analysis, and platform UX / APIs. Your team partners tightly with Engineering, with the Director of BioInsight Platform Foundation, with application product leaders whose tools run on the platform, and with Sales, Customer Success, and Marketing.

Responsibilities

Platform Core Strategy and Roadmap

● Own the product strategy and multi-quarter roadmap for BioInsight Platform Core capabilities

● Prioritize investments that improve time-to-first-analysis, workflow success, data reliability, and adoption across applications that run on the platform

● Partner with Engineering on architecture bets, reliability, performance, and technical debt that affect Core product outcomes

● Represent BioInsight Platform Core in company leadership forums; escalate tradeoffs with clear recommendations

Core Capabilities

● Own product requirements for data storage and data movement — customer data stores, import/export, and lifecycle behaviors that affect product experience (commercial packaging partners with Foundation)

● Own product requirements for workflow and pipeline execution — defining, launching, monitoring, and operating analysis workflows at scale

● Own product requirements for sample and project management — organizing biological and analysis context that applications and workflows depend on

● Own product requirements for notebooks and interactive analysis — exploratory / interactive compute experiences on platform data

Go-to-Market and Field Enablement

● Define and drive GTM for major Core capabilities — messaging, enablement, sales plays, objection handling, and launch instrumentation for storage, workflows, notebooks, projects, and platform UX/APIs

● Enable Sales and Customer Success with education, battlecards, demos, and customer narratives that show how Core capabilities unlock application value on the platform

● Support strategic customer engagements where Core architecture, roadmap, or reliability is decisive

Leadership

● Lead a team of technical product managers; hire, coach, and set the bar for excellent Core product management

● Align with peer Product Teams (DRAGEN, Oncology, Genetic Disease, Multiomics, Orchestration) so Core investments unlock portfolio-level outcomes

● Set objectives, performance standards, and career paths for direct reports

Qualifications

Required

● Bachelor's degree in a technical field (computer science, bioinformatics, engineering, life sciences, or related) or equivalent experience

● 7+ years of people management experience

● Typically 15+ years of progressive experience in product management for scientific, data, analysis, or developer-facing platforms

● 2+ years of ownership of platform capabilities used by multiple consuming applications (e.g., storage/data services, workflow or pipeline execution, notebooks / interactive compute, or APIs)

Preferred

● Experience in life sciences, health tech, genomics, or regulated software; prior ICA, BaseSpace, or equivalent genomics-platform experience is a significant plus

● Familiarity with AWS, Azure, or GCP and with hybrid, on-prem, and customer-cloud deployment models

● Working knowledge of the software development lifecycle; design controls / ISO 13485 experience a plus where platform touches regulated workflows

● Experience discussing software development, architecture, APIs, and operational constraints and tradeoffs with Engineering

● Cross-functional leadership across Engineering, Design/UX, Quality, Sales, and Marketing without formal authority

All listed requirements are deemed as essential functions to this position; however, business conditions may require reasonable accommodations for additional task and responsibilities.
