Position Summary
Illumina's BioInsight Platform is the foundation for how customers buy, access, and adopt Illumina software. As Director of Software Technical Product Management — BioInsight Platform Foundation, you own the product strategy that increases the utility, scale, and adoption of the BioInsight Platform. You lead a team of 3-5 Product Managers that shape login, authentication, billing, certifications, security, regionalization, free trials, and conversion. Your team partners tightly with Global Software & Informatics Sales, Finance, Support, Marketing, and with the other software product leaders whose tools ride on the platform.
Responsibilities
Platform Product and Billing Strategy
● Establish a multi-quarter platform foundation strategy and roadmap spanning authentication, authorization, single sign-on, billing, trials, conversion, regionalization, trust, APIs, CLIs, MCPs, etc.
● Partner with Finance, Deal Desk, and Legal on commercial constructs; ensure pricing and packaging are optimal for customer buyers, as well as internal operations
● Deliver a roadmap of regional security and operational certifications — in partnership with Security, Legal, and Compliance — to build trust with discerning customers
● Own free-trial and conversion product experiences that turn first-time platform use into durable paid adoption
Go-to-Market and Field Enablement
● Define and drive GTM for major foundation capabilities — messaging, enablement, sales plays, objection handling, and launch instrumentation
● Enable Sales and Customer Success with education, battlecards, worked commercial examples, demo narratives, and deal desk guidance for platform SKUs
● Align with Marketing on platform positioning, launch content, and competitive differentiation
Funnel and Cross-Functional Partnership
● Instrument the funnel (signup → trial → paid → expand); run experiments; close the loop with other product leaders on product changes that unblock conversion
● Represent BioInsight Platform Foundation in company leadership forums; escalate tradeoffs with clear recommendations
Leadership
● Lead a team of technical product managers; hire, coach, and set the bar for excellent foundation product management
● Set objectives, performance standards, and career paths for direct reports
Qualifications
Required
● Bachelor's degree in a technical or business field (computer science, bioinformatics, life sciences, engineering, business) or equivalent experience
● 7+ years of people management experience
● Typically 15+ years of progressive experience in product management, product-led growth, or commercial product leadership for B2B / enterprise software
● 2+ years of ownership of signup, certification, pricing, packaging, or monetization for a platform or multi-product portfolio
● 2+ years of ownership of conversion funnel metrics and optimizations
Preferred
● Experience in complex multi-product enterprise SaaS; life sciences, health tech, or genomics experience is not required
● Familiarity with cloud commercial models (PAYG, commits, credits, trials) and with regulated / quality-conscious software environments
● Experience with identity / access platforms, security or compliance certifications, or regionalization of cloud software products
● MBA or advanced degree
● Experience discussing software development, architecture, APIs, and operational constraints and tradeoffs with engineering
● Cross-functional leadership across Sales, Finance, Marketing, Legal, and Support without formal authority
All listed requirements are deemed as essential functions to this position; however, business conditions may require reasonable accommodations for additional tasks and responsibilities.
