Show job description

Definium Therapeutics is a late-stage clinical biopharmaceutical company and our mission is to forge a new era of psychiatry by applying scientific rigor to psychedelics, with the goal of developing accessible treatments that unlock healing at scale.

Our lead product candidate, lysergide tartrate (our proprietary orally disintegrating tablet form of lysergide (LSD) D-tartrate), represents a highly differentiated, potential best-in-class opportunity for patients suffering from generalized anxiety, major depressive disorder, and posttraumatic stress disorder. Our early stage pipeline includes DT402, the R-enantiomer of MDMA and is under development to target the core symptoms of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), specifically addressing social communication challenges.

Guided by the recognition that patients deserve more than better, Definium is relentlessly advancing a new generation of therapeutics intended to address the underlying causes of psychiatric and neurological disorders. By turning evidence into impact, Definium aims to change the trajectory of today’s mental health care crisis and enable a healthier future. Headquartered in New York, Definium Therapeutics trades on Nasdaq under the symbol DFTX.

Together we are moving psychiatry forward—beyond better, into a boundless future. Join us!

In this role, you will develop and execute Definium's tax strategy as we transition from a development-stage to a commercial-stage company. As our primary internal tax resource and trusted advisor to Finance leadership, you will oversee tax accounting and planning, coordinate compliance through external advisors, and build the infrastructure to support commercial operations. The ideal candidate pairs strong technical expertise with a practical, business-oriented approach and is comfortable leading strategy and executing hands-on.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead Definium's tax strategy and planning, including the tax impact of financings, equity compensation, corporate structure changes, and strategic transactions
  • Own ASC 740 tax accounting, including quarterly and annual provisions, deferred tax assets, valuation allowances, and uncertain tax positions, in support of SEC reporting and audits
  • Oversee federal, state, local, and international compliance performed by external providers, and coordinate responses to tax authority inquiries
  • Lead tax readiness for commercialization, including state and local, sales and use, franchise, and nexus considerations for a growing field-based and commercial workforce
  • Manage tax attributes and credits, including Section 382 analyses, NOL preservation, and federal and state R&D credit studies
  • Support business development, licensing, and collaboration transactions, plus transfer pricing and legal entity planning as needed
  • Serve as principal liaison to external tax advisors, managing workstreams, budgets, and deliverables, and challenging recommendations as needed
  • Partner with Accounting, FP&A, Treasury, Legal, Payroll, HR, Commercial, and Executive Leadership, and build scalable tax processes, policies, and documentation

Qualifications:

  • Minimum bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Tax, or a related field required; Master's in Taxation (MST) or advanced tax credential preferred
  • CPA certification required
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive tax experience required
  • Strong knowledge of ASC 740 and U.S. corporate taxation required
  • Experience supporting public company reporting and managing external tax service providers required
  • Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to balance strategy and hands-on execution
  • Up to 10% travel will be required based upon business needs

Preferred:

  • Big Four or national public accounting experience
  • Biotech, pharmaceutical, life sciences, or healthcare industry experience
  • Experience supporting organizations transitioning from development-stage to commercial operations.
  • Experience with Section 382, NOL planning, R&D credits, multi-state taxation, equity compensation, and capital markets transactions

Individual compensation within the range is determined based on factors such as relevant skills, experience, qualifications, scope of the role, and other legitimate business considerations.
