What's the role?

Gen II's Data & Integration Platform (DIP) connects 40+ systems across our fund administration technology estate. The integration half is an AI-assisted integration factory — a repeatable delivery engine for building, testing and deploying adapters at pace on Azure integration services.

We are looking for a Director Technology, Integration Platform to lead that function. You will be accountable for integration delivery and production support across the estate, for the engineers who provide it, and for the technology, vendor relationships and delivery infrastructure that underpin it. You are the technical owner of the integration platform and ultimately accountable for its architecture, standards and technology choices. The platform roadmap is owned by the product function; your accountability is the capacity behind it, the commitments made against it, and the technical direction of how it is built.

The emphasis of the role is external and strategic. Most of your time will be spent with the business and with your peers — agreeing what the platform should deliver, holding the function to the service levels it has committed to, and setting the direction of the engineering practice. You will retain sufficient technical depth to engage directly in delivery and incident resolution where it matters, while building a team whose performance does not depend on you doing so. AI-assisted engineering is established practice here rather than an ambition — AI is used across development, testing and production support — and we expect this role to raise that standard further.

You will report to the Head of Architecture and work alongside peers in architecture, data and product, supported by a Tech Lead who provides day-to-day technical leadership within the team. The function is being established across the UK/EU and US to provide in-house coverage for both user bases and the full working day; the team, the operating standards and the service model are yours to build.

What you'll be doing

Owning the Integration Function

  • Owning integration delivery and support across the estate — commitments, quality, and the SLAs the business depends on
  • Line managing all integration engineering resource; you will be recruiting into an open Tech Lead position and a growing team from early on
  • Establishing how the team operates alongside the Tech Lead, who provides technical leadership and direction to the engineers day to day and supports you on architecture and standards
  • Owning the support model including out-of-hours cover for critical P1/P2 issues across US and EU timezones, and turning recurring incidents into permanent fixes
  • Reporting delivery and service performance to technology and business leadership on your own initiative

AI-Assisted Delivery and Support

  • Setting the standard for AI-assisted engineering with Claude Code — scaffolding Function Apps, generating Logic Apps workflows and APIM policies, IaC templating and documentation as the default mode of working
  • Driving AI into testing — generated test cases, scaffolding and coverage expansion as routine, not catch-up
  • Building Support Agent capability into the support model — AI-assisted triage and diagnosis, automated root-cause summarisation, runbook generation, and progression toward self-healing
  • Establishing the true cost of adapter delivery in time and effort, and reducing it through AI and reusable patterns

Platform and Delivery Infrastructure

  • Owning the architecture of the integration platform — target state, patterns, standards and technology selection — supported by the Tech Lead and aligned to cross-domain architectural direction, with final technical accountability resting with you
  • Owning CI/CD, automated test execution, deployment gates and Bicep-based IaC for the integration estate, including the Senior DevOps capability within the function
  • Ensuring the pattern library and reusable system wrappers are genuinely adopted, so that each successive adapter against a given platform costs materially less than the first
  • Holding the line on observability, resilience, throughput and security, including managed identity auth and API governance through APIM

Business and Peer Engagement

  • Acting as the senior point of contact for integration service and delivery — application owners, operations leadership and the wider technology estate. New demand is directed through the product function, and maintaining that discipline forms part of the role
  • Owning capacity and delivery commitment for the function — committing dates and standing behind them. Where work spans integration and data, product holds the consolidated view and critical path, and your obligation is realistic commitments and early notice of risk to them
  • Working with the product function on roadmap and priority — business priority is their decision, feasibility and technical sequencing are yours
  • Partnering with the data platform function so both halves of DIP behave as one platform to those consuming it, and with architecture and quality engineering on standards and test automation

Technology and Vendor Ownership

  • Owning tooling selection, platform licensing and the software and services budget for the function
  • Owning vendor relationships across integration tooling and third-party platforms — commercial discussions, service performance and escalation
  • Making and defending build-versus-buy decisions, and retiring tooling that is not earning its place

The ideal background for this role

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years in technology roles including 3+ years line managing engineering teams — a requirement rather than a preference, evidenced in role history rather than a skills list
  • Ownership of an integration function or platform team at director or equivalent level, accountable for the architecture and technology of the platform as well as for its delivery and support
  • Deep, hands-on grounding in Azure integration services — Function Apps, Logic Apps Standard, API Management, Service Bus — sufficient to own the architecture rather than delegate it. You have designed and built integration solutions yourself, not only reviewed the work of others
  • Demonstrable ownership of integration architecture at platform level — target-state design, pattern libraries, standards and technology selection — with decisions you made, documented and defended through a governance or review process
  • Sound judgement on non-functional design — resilience, throughput, security, observability and API governance — and the experience to know where an integration estate typically fails
  • Track record running a production support function against defined SLAs, including out-of-hours cover, with measurable service improvement
  • Experience owning CI/CD and IaC for a delivery function — pipelines, automated testing, deployment gates, Bicep or equivalent
  • Established use of AI-assisted engineering in delivery and support — Claude Code or equivalent already embedded in how your teams work rather than something you intend to introduce
  • Credibility with senior stakeholders — able to hold a position on scope and feasibility at executive level without damaging the relationship
  • Experience owning a software and services budget and vendor relationships
  • Experience building a team from a small base rather than inheriting a mature one
  • Experience in fund administration, private capital or broader financial services (desirable)
  • Experience working across US and UK/EU teams and timezones (desirable)
  • Strong C# background (desirable)

The salary range for this position is $180,000 - $220,000, in addition to a discretionary bonus and comprehensive benefits package. Please note that the actual salary offered within that range will depend on the candidate’s experience level.
