Show job description

Treasury group at American Express enables profitable business growth through management of the company’s balance sheet including liquidity, capital distribution, and global money movement strategies. Treasury also plays a key role in identifying, measuring and addressing financial and operational risks. We ensure that the right amount of capital, funding, and liquidity is in the right currency, in the right place, at the right time, with the right controls.

Reporting to the Vice President, Cayman Islands (CI) Treasury and working in close collaboration with the Vice President of Global Treasury Controls and Operational Governance, the Director, Treasury Funding & Foreign Exchange (FX) Controls strengthens Treasury’s CI risk and control environment. The role provides direct support to CI Treasury teams and partners with enterprise risk teams to execute and advance CI Treasury’s operational risk, third-party and process-resiliency strategies, embedding accountability and operational discipline across day-to-day activities. The Director leads key risk-management frameworks and provides execution support for Business Continuity Management activities and processes, balancing strategic direction with hands-on delivery and high visibility across Treasury and Finance.

Key accountabilities

Operational risk and control frameworks

  • Lead CI Treasury operational-risk execution including risk control self-assessments, ensuring consistency, quality and alignment with enterprise standards.
  • Provide control governance leadership for CI Treasury, including FX exposure management, hedging activities, intercompany funding and Sale of Receivables arrangements, strengthening control design, execution and oversight.
  • Embed accountability and operational discipline into day-to-day Treasury activities and promote consistent application of risk-management expectations across teams and geographies.
  • Support governance and change initiatives by embedding operational-risk considerations into CI Treasury projects and strategic priorities.
  • Partner with Second and Third Lines of Defense to support enterprise alignment, regulatory readiness and sustainable control outcomes.

Issues, events and remediation

  • Manage CI Treasury issue and Operational Risk Event processes.
  • Support timely identification, assessment and escalation of control issues and operational-risk events in line with enterprise and regulatory expectations.
  • Drive disciplined remediation planning, milestone tracking, evidence review and closure governance as required
  • Provide transparent reporting on issue status, dependencies, overdue actions and emerging execution risks.
  • Help identify recurring themes and opportunities to strengthen processes, controls and preventive actions.

Third-party risk and resiliency

  • Oversee Third Party Relationship Management activities for CI Treasury across the vendor lifecycle.
  • Partner with business owners and enterprise risk teams to support effective third-party risk identification, monitoring, escalation and remediation.
  • Coordinate Business Continuity Management (BCM) activities including Business Impact Assessments, Business Continuity Plan maintenance, testing and resiliency improvements.
  • Partner with global BCM stakeholders to maintain alignment with enterprise requirements and support practical, executable recovery arrangements.
  • Promote clear ownership, current documentation and timely resolution of third-party and resiliency gaps.

Risk reporting, governance and leadership

  • Develop and deliver risk reporting and insights, including dashboards, Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) and management reporting, to support risk awareness, trend identification and informed decision-making as required.
  • Translate complex risk information into concise analysis, themes and recommendations.
  • Coordinate effectively with Treasury leaders, control owners, enterprise risk, Compliance, Audit and other stakeholders across functions and geographies.
  • 5+ years of experience in financial services, with strong preference for experience in Treasury, Operational Risk, Control Management or closely related functions.
  • Hands-on experience with control and risk frameworks such as risk control self-assessments, issue management, operational risk events, third-party risk and business continuity within a regulated environment.
  • Enthusiastic people leadership, with the ability to develop, engage and empower colleagues and help build a highly effective, inclusive culture.
  • Demonstrated leadership and program-management capability, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams, set priorities and drive execution through influence rather than authority.
  • Proven ability to partner effectively across functions and geographies, including collaboration with business leaders and Risk, Compliance and Audit teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience leveraging dashboards, metrics and reporting to support decision-making and risk insight.
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex risk concepts to senior stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Risk Management or a related field; professional certifications such as FRM is an asset.
