Job Title: Doctor of Physical Therapy, Clinical Specialist
Job Type: Remote full-time, 10AM-7PM, 5 days/week (required to provide clinical coverage
through 8 PM Mountain Time)
About Aware Health
Aware Health is a rapidly scaling health tech startup revolutionizing musculoskeletal (MSK)
care. Nearly 50% of the workforce experiences MSK pain, from acute issues like muscle strains
to chronic conditions. Unfortunately, many are misdiagnosed and treated passively with opioids,
injections, or surgery, often leading to unnecessary risks and costs.
At Aware Health, we empower Doctors of Physical Therapy to lead the MSK care process,
providing immediate diagnosis and evidence-based treatment to patients. You will primarily
manage your diverse caseload through our cutting-edge telehealth platform, ensuring people
receive high-quality care wherever they are. This is a role where you will truly practice at the top
of your license, acting as the primary MSK expert, leading clinical decisions, and helping to
steer patients away from unnecessary high-cost procedures.
If you are a resourceful, high-performing PT ready to escape the limitations of traditional clinic
settings and shape the future of conservative MSK care, we want you.
What Makes This Role Unique?
- Clinical Autonomy and Direct Access Care: You will be the primary MSK expert,
leading evaluations, differential diagnosis, and treatment decisions while practicing at the
top of your license, diagnosing and driving the care plan from day one. You lead the
decision-making. - Flexible Remote Role with Travel: Primarily provide remote clinical care through our
telehealth platform, with occasional in-person responsibilities, including onsite customer
treatments, team collaboration, and company events. Travel may be required
approximately 1–2 times per quarter. - Broader Clinical Impact: In addition to direct patient care, you'll have opportunities to
contribute to initiatives that improve patient engagement and MSK outcomes across
employer populations. - Shape the Future of MSK Care: Have opportunities to collaborate with Clinical,
Product, Engineering, and Customer Success teams on projects that enhance
technology, refine clinical workflows, and advance evidence-based MSK care.
Compensation & Benefits
We offer a highly competitive total compensation package designed to recruit and retain the
best clinical talent.
- Base Salary: $90,000 - $95,000 annually, based on experience and certifications.
- Significant Equity: Receive substantial stock options as an early-stage clinical hire, aligning your success directly with the company’s high-growth potential.
- Professional Development: Up to $3,000 annual stipend for Clinical Education,
Certifications (OCS, SCS, etc.), and professional conferences. - Career Expansion: We cover the full cost and administration for multi-state licensure (up to 15 states) to expand your long-term scope and earning potential.
- Cross-Functional Impact: Play an active role in shaping the business outside of patient
care. Opportunities exist to collaborate directly with our Product, Engineering, and Sales teams, helping to define technology features, refine clinical workflows, and contribute to published outcomes data. - Comprehensive Coverage: Medical (PPO, HMO, HDHP), Dental, Vision, 401K, Life
Insurance, Short/Long-Term Disability, FSA, and EAP.
Key Responsibilities & Clinical Scope
We are looking for a Doctor of Physical Therapy who thrives on problem-solving, clinical
excellence, and connecting with people virtually.
Clinical Care & Decision-Making
- Evaluate and treat a diverse and complex caseload across MSK domains, including
spine, extremities, pelvic health, and TMJ via telehealth and in-person. - Conduct thorough evaluations, differential diagnosis, and clinical triage, determining
when referral, imaging, or additional medical evaluation is indicated based on
evidence-based guidelines. - Develop individualized treatment plans incorporating exercise, education, and lifestyle nterventions while utilizing internal treatment programs.
- Clearly communicate diagnoses, prognoses, and treatment recommendations to support
patient understanding, confidence, and adherence. - Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans based on clinical presentation and
measurable outcomes.
Account Engagement & Clinical Collaboration
- Partner with Customer Success to support engagement, growth and clinical initiatives
across assigned employer accounts, including developing targeted strategies to improve
program utilization and reduce downstream MSK costs. - Identify and proactively engage high-risk members who may benefit from MSK care,
including outreach, scheduling, and clinical evaluation. - Monitor account-level engagement, visit completion, and plan-of-care adherence,
identifying opportunities to improve participation and outcomes. - Contribute to clinical initiatives, outcomes reporting, and continuous improvement efforts.
Opportunities may also arise to collaborate with Product and Engineering on clinical
workflows, technology, and the patient experience. - Maintain accurate clinical documentation and timely tracking of patient progress and
outcomes. - Participate in required team meetings and occasional onsite customer events.
- Demonstrate flexibility with occasional schedule adjustments, including evenings or
weekends, to support patient and business needs.
Logistics & Adaptability:
- Maintain strict organization to track patient progress, outcomes, and drive internal
metrics. - Effectively communicate and collaborate with team members and patients.
Demonstrate a growth mindset and flexibility, including occasional schedule adjustments
(evenings/weekends) for on-site events or team needs.
Requirements - Must hold a Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) and be actively licensed to practice
in a state located in the PST, ideally with compact privileges. - Must be eligible and willing to obtain additional state licensure as needed to support
patient coverage. - Having already obtained board certification in Orthopedic Physical Therapy or strong
preference for sitting for the OCS. - Must be able to work a consistent schedule of 10 AM–7 PM Pacific Time,
Monday-Friday, to support patient coverage across Pacific and Mountain Time Zone states.
Bonus Points:
- Licensure in: PST + MST time zone states
- OCS certification
- Managerial experience
