ABOUT THE CLIENT:
Our client is an established Australian construction and metal fabrication business delivering custom metalwork packages across commercial projects. The business works closely with builders, architects, engineers, project managers, fabrication teams and installers to turn design concepts into practical, compliant products and accurate project documentation.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Draftsperson will support the delivery of concept, workshop and site layout drawings using AutoCAD and Inventor. The role is responsible for converting architectural, structural and project information into clear, accurate drawings that can be used for client approvals, fabrication and installation.
The successful candidate will need strong drawing interpretation, attention to detail and file-management discipline. They must be comfortable raising questions when information is unclear, working collaboratively with project stakeholders and updating drawings as project requirements change. Including strong written communication skills - effective interaction, resourceful, and able to find solutions independently, anticipating challenges and proactively addressing them, can be trusted to handle information, maintain confidentiality, and consistently deliver quality work.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Review drafting requests with project stakeholders and identify missing information, impracticalities or details requiring clarification before progressing.
• Access client project platforms such as Procore, where required, to obtain current project information and documentation.
• Prepare concept drawings for client review and approval, including relevant materials, dimensions, finishes, quantities and specification information.
• Coordinate drawing reviews and incorporate approved amendments, variations and clarifications.
• Convert approved concepts into detailed workshop drawings that are clear and practical for fabrication teams.
• Prepare site layout drawings with clear dimensions, set-out points, product locations and labelling for installation teams.
• Maintain drawing registers, project folders and revision control so current drawings are clearly identifiable and superseded versions are archived.
• Update drawings when specifications, finishes, fixing details, layouts or site conditions change and ensure relevant stakeholders receive the current revision.
• Check whether drawing changes may affect engineering certification or other approvals and raise these items with the relevant local project or engineering team.
• Perform thorough self-checks to minimise drafting errors, fabrication rework and installation issues.
Requirements
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills;Ability to work independently, manage deadlines and ask questions when information is incomplete.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Strong English Language Skills - written & verbal
- Strong Writing Skills - conversational Australian English
- Minimum 2 years of relevant AutoCAD drafting experience.
- Proficient use of AutoCAD and Inventor.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings.
- Construction and/or metal fabrication industry knowledge.
- Strong attention to detail, particularly with dimensions, measurements, specifications and revision control.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
- Good organisational, time-management and file-management skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Bluebeam.
