Deliver the Technology Behind One of the UK's Biggest Public Transport Transformations
At the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA), we're delivering a once-in-a-generation transformation programme that will reshape public transport across our region.
Bus Franchising will fundamentally change how bus services operate across South Yorkshire, creating a more connected, accessible and customer-focused network for the people who live, work and travel here. Alongside this, we're modernising digital services, investing in data and technology capabilities, and delivering major programmes that will support economic growth and improve outcomes for over 1.4 million residents.
We're looking for talented DTS Project Managers to join our growing Digital & Technology Services team and help deliver the technology, systems and business change that will make this vision a reality. Whether your experience lies in technology delivery, large-scale transformation, digital services or complex stakeholder environments, this is an opportunity to work on projects that have genuine regional impact.
Applications must be accompanied by a cover letter to detail how you meet the criteria as detailed within the role profile (please see role profile attached). Please note, all applications should be made directly via our careers portal.
About the role
As a DTS Project Manager, you'll be at the heart of delivering critical technology and business change initiatives that support the successful implementation of South Yorkshire's Bus Franchising Programme and wider digital transformation ambitions.
You'll lead projects from concept through to delivery, working with technical specialists, suppliers, operational teams and senior stakeholders to ensure successful outcomes. No two days will be the same, with projects spanning customer experience, ticketing, digital platforms, data and business intelligence, operational systems and corporate services.
You'll have the opportunity to:
- Deliver high-profile technology and transformation projects that support the launch of Bus Franchising in South Yorkshire.
- Work across a diverse portfolio including customer platforms, data and reporting, ticketing systems, operational technologies and digital services.
- Collaborate with senior leaders, suppliers and delivery teams to drive progress and remove barriers.
- Help shape how digital and technology projects are delivered across SYMCA.
- Play a key role in ensuring services are ready for successful implementation, adoption and long-term success.
About you
You'll be someone who enjoys bringing people together, creating clarity from complexity and driving projects forward with confidence and enthusiasm.
Whether managing competing priorities, engaging stakeholders or navigating challenging delivery environments, you're motivated by achieving meaningful outcomes and seeing your work make a tangible difference.
We're particularly interested in someone who:
- Thrives in fast-paced, evolving environments where collaboration is essential.
- Builds strong relationships and earns credibility with stakeholders at all levels.
- Balances attention to detail with a focus on the bigger organisational picture.
- Enjoys solving problems, overcoming obstacles and finding practical solutions.
- Has a passion for delivering change that improves services for customers and communities.
Why Join SYMCA?
There are few opportunities to work on programmes of this scale and significance within local government.
At SYMCA, you'll be joining an organisation with bold ambitions for the region and technology at the centre of its future plans. You'll work alongside talented colleagues, contribute to projects that will be seen and experienced by millions of journeys each year, and help shape the future of public transport and digital services across South Yorkshire.
In return, we offer:
- The opportunity to work on one of the UK's most ambitious transport transformation programmes.
- Flexible and hybrid working arrangements.
- A supportive culture built around collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement.
- Excellent opportunities for professional development and career progression.
- Meaningful work that delivers lasting benefits for communities across South Yorkshire.
