We are looking for an early-career Software Engineer to join the FortiSOC (SIEM) Cloud Platform team in Santa Clara, CA. This role is ideal for a recent graduate interested in building the cloud infrastructure and backend services that power FortiSOC Cloud deployments.
You will work alongside experienced engineers to develop platform services, automate cloud operations, and improve deployment reliability. You will gain hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure, Python, containers, infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, observability, and disaster recovery.
This is an opportunity to build a foundation in software and cloud platform engineering while contributing to a cybersecurity product used by customers worldwide.

Responsibilities

- Develop and maintain backend services and automation tools, primarily in Python, with guidance from experienced engineers.
- Contribute to automation for provisioning, deployment, upgrades, scaling, backup, and disaster recovery.
- Help maintain infrastructure-as-code using Terraform/OpenTofu and related tools.
- Support the development and deployment of containerized services using Kubernetes.
- Improve monitoring, logging, alerting, and operational tooling.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and deployment workflows.
- Investigate and troubleshoot issues across backend services, cloud infrastructure, Linux systems, and networking with team support.
- Collaborate with product, QA, SRE, and security teams to deliver reliable and secure cloud services.
- Participate in code reviews, document your work, and learn engineering best practices.
- Gradually take on production support responsibilities, including participation in an on-call rotation after appropriate training and onboarding.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Programming experience in Python through coursework, projects, internships, research, or professional work.
- Understanding of core computer science concepts, including data structures, algorithms, and software design.
- Familiarity with Linux and basic networking concepts.
- Familiarity with Git and collaborative software development.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn new technologies.
- Ability to communicate clearly, ask questions, and collaborate with local and global engineering teams.
- Ability to work onsite in Santa Clara, CA, four days per week.
No prior full-time professional experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with one or more cloud platforms such as AWS, OpenStack, Azure or Google Cloud.

- Experience with ClickHouse or other distributed databases.

- Experience with observability tools (for example Prometheus/VictoriaMetrics, Grafana, CloudWatch) and alerting.

- Exposure to high availability, backup/restore or disaster recovery work.

- Experience working on SaaS platforms or large-scale production services.

- Interest or background in cybersecurity, SIEM or cloud security products.

The ideal candidate is a strong hands-on engineer who enjoys building and running reliable systems. They're comfortable moving between infrastructure, automation code and production operations, take ownership of what they ship, and are eager to automate away manual work.

Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $110,000 - $180,000. Fortinet offers employees a variety of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, 401(k), 11 paid holidays, vacation time, and sick time, as well as a comprehensive leave program.

Wage ranges are based on various factors, including the labor market, job type, and job level. Exact salary offers will be determined by factors such as the candidate's subject knowledge, skill level, qualifications, experience, and geographic location.

All roles are eligible to participate in the Fortinet equity program. Bonus eligibility is reviewed at the time of hire and annually at the Company’s discretion.
