This position has a term length of one year plus one day, with the possibility of renewal. Location - This position offers a flexible work arrangement, allowing for a combination of remote and in-office work (in Edmonton) based on work preferences. Preference for schedule will be discussed during the recruitment process. Reporting to the Senior Lead, Monitoring Science and Innovation depending on assignment, the Ecological Field Coordinator leads field crews delivering biodiversity monitoring and restoration monitoring activities across Alberta. The position is responsible for coordinating daily field operations, supervising seasonal field staff, implementing monitoring protocols, maintaining field equipment, and ensuring field activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established procedures. The position works closely with technical staff, scientists, landowners, contractors, and government partners to support successful field program delivery. Field Operations Coordinates daily field operations for assigned monitoring projects. Organizes field schedules, travel, accommodations, vehicles, equipment, and supplies. Ensures field activities are completed safely, efficiently, and according to project schedules. Participates in field monitoring and data collection as required. Identifies and resolves day-to-day operational issues encountered during field activities. Field Crew Leadership Supervises seasonal field technicians during field operations. Provides field instruction on monitoring protocols, equipment use, and safe work procedures. Assigns daily work, monitors performance, and provides coaching and feedback. Supports recruitment, onboarding, and training of seasonal staff. Promotes a safe, respectful, and productive field work environment. Data Quality and Equipment Management Ensures monitoring protocols and quality assurance procedures are consistently implemented. Reviews field data for completeness and accuracy prior to submission. Maintains field equipment, vehicles, and technical supplies. Assists with testing and implementation of new field equipment and technologies. Identifies opportunities to improve field procedures and operational efficiency. Program Support Assists with annual field planning and logistics. Supports preparation of field documentation, operational records, and technical summaries. Maintains effective working relationships with landowners, Indigenous communities, contractors, and project partners encountered during field activities. Bachelor's degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Forestry, Natural Resource Management, or a related discipline. Minimum two years of experience conducting ecological field work or environmental monitoring. Equivalencies in education and experience will be considered. Experience coordinating field crews or leading field activities. Experience working safely in remote field environments. Knowledge of ecological sampling methods and field data collection. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Must possess a valid Alberta Class 5 (non-GDL) driver’s license, and be able to provide a recent copy of a three-year driver’s abstract with no more than six (6) demerits and/or two (2) moving violations within the last two years.
