eCommerce Operations Associate

Does the opportunity to devote your talents to a cause much greater than yourself excite you? Are you energized by using data, systems, and collaboration to create exceptional customer experiences and help grow a mission-driven business? The Arbor Day Foundation is a place where you can do work that matters with people who care. As we say at the Foundation: life is short, love where you work.

As one of the world's largest conservation organizations, the Arbor Day Foundation inspires people to plant, nurture, and celebrate trees. We help people understand and use trees as a solution to global issues (like air quality, water quality, climate change, deforestation, poverty, and hunger) that are critical to survival.

Join the Arbor Day Foundation as an Ecommerce Operations Specialist on the Individual Engagement team to help power and grow a mission-driven ecommerce business that supports tree planting and environmental impact around the world. You’ll support the day-to-day business operations of the Arbor Day Foundation’s ecommerce channels. This position manages a diverse product portfolio that includes live trees and nursery products, merchandise, seasonal offerings, and other ecommerce business lines. The specialist coordinates product and catalog information, inventory and procurement activities, merchandising updates, promotions, order issue resolution, and ecommerce systems.

Your Support System:

  • You’ll report to the Ecommerce Manager
  • You’ll collaborate with Procurement, Marketing, Creative, Customer Service, Operations, Technology, and other partners to keep the business running effectively while identifying practical opportunities to improve customer experience, profitability, operational efficiency, and marketplace growth.

How we work:

  • Location: Lincoln, Nebraska
  • Schedule: In-office Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday; optional remote work on Wednesday and Friday.

What you’ll do:

eCommerce and Catalog Operations

  • Manage and maintain an accurate ecommerce catalog of more than 1,000 products across multiple business lines.
  • Create, update, organize, and retire product listings, including product names, descriptions, attributes, pricing, imagery, availability, merchandising details, and related content.
  • Develop product listings that are accurate, appealing, aligned with brand standards, and informed by search engine optimization practices.
  • Coordinate seasonal assortment changes, product launches, product expansion, promotions, and other catalog updates.
  • Perform ongoing ecommerce platform maintenance, merchandising updates, and quality assurance to keep the site current, accurate, and appealing.
  • Review website functionality and product presentation, identify issues, and coordinate resolution with Technology or other partners as appropriate.
  • Manage routine purchase order entry and other transactional activities necessary to support ecommerce operations.
  • Inventory and Procurement Coordination
  • Partner with Procurement and operational teams to support inventory planning, product availability, purchasing decisions, and seasonal demand.
  • Review sales, inventory, customer demand, and product information to support assortment and purchasing recommendations.
  • Monitor inventory levels and identify potential shortages, excess inventory, product availability risks, or fulfillment concerns.
  • Coordinate accurate inventory information across ecommerce platforms, internal systems, and affected teams.
  • Investigate and resolve order issues, returns, fulfillment exceptions, and other nonstandard customer or operational situations.
  • Identify recurring inventory, order, or fulfillment issues and recommend changes that reduce future problems.

Analysis, Merchandising, and Optimization

  • Use ecommerce, customer, product, sales, inventory, and operational data to answer business questions and support decisions.
  • Review available data to identify trends, risks, customer pain points, merchandising opportunities, profitability considerations, and operational improvement opportunities.
  • Conduct initial research and analysis independently before engaging Business Intelligence or other specialized partners for more complex needs.
  • Translate findings into clear observations, practical recommendations, and actions that improve the business.
  • Evaluate product assortment and merchandising opportunities and recommend adjustments based on customer behavior, product performance, availability, and business priorities.
  • Track the impact of implemented changes and adjust recommendations based on results.

Project and Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Plan and coordinate ecommerce projects, product expansions, seasonal transitions, promotions, system updates, and process changes.
  • Serve as a primary liaison among eCommerce, Procurement, Marketing, Advertising, Creative, Customer Service, Operations, Technology, and other partners.
  • Coordinate product information, imagery, pricing, inventory details, deadlines, and operational requirements for campaigns, launches, and promotions.
  • Manage multiple priorities and one-time requests while maintaining clear communication, documentation, ownership, and follow-through.
  • Identify dependencies, clarify responsibilities, communicate risks, and engage the appropriate partners without requiring manager involvement in every step.
  • Build effective cross-functional relationships and influence progress without direct authority.

Process Improvement, Systems, and Business Continuity

  • Identify opportunities to simplify, automate, standardize, or improve ecommerce processes and workflows.
  • Document process gaps, recurring issues, customer pain points, and operational risks, and recommend practical improvements.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures, system guidance, decision resources, and other documentation that captures critical institutional knowledge.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable business user of the ecommerce platform and connected product, inventory, ordering, and reporting tools.
  • Own or support the implementation and ongoing effectiveness of a product information management system and other ecommerce tools, as assigned.
  • Monitor business tools and coordinate issue resolution with Technology, vendors, or other partners while representing ecommerce operational needs.
  • Support testing, adoption, and continuous improvement of new systems, enhancements, and processes.

Marketplace and Business Growth Support

  • Support the evaluation and implementation of additional marketplaces or ecommerce channels, such as Amazon, when aligned with approved business priorities.
  • Coordinate operational requirements for new channels, including product information, inventory, pricing, order workflows, customer support, and partner responsibilities.
  • Bring forward recommendations and help prioritize opportunities as knowledge of the ecommerce business, systems, and customer needs develops.

What you'll bring:

  • Passion for the Foundation’s mission, nature, environmental stewardship, and people
  • Relevant experience in ecommerce operations, merchandising, catalog management, inventory coordination, retail operations, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Confidence working across teams, building relationships, and driving work forward in a collaborative environment.
  • A proactive, solution-oriented mindset with a passion for improving processes and solving business challenges.
  • Experience using data, Excel, reporting tools, and business systems to identify opportunities and support decision-making.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering accurate, high-quality work.
  • Experience with ecommerce platforms such as Shopify, Magento, WooCommerce, nopCommerce, or similar tools is a plus.

What success looks like:

  • Maintain an accurate, engaging, and high-performing ecommerce catalog of 1,000+ products.
  • Use data and insights to improve merchandising, inventory management, customer experience, and business performance.
  • Successfully coordinate product launches, promotions, and seasonal initiatives across multiple teams.
