Job Opening: Editorial Assistant - Baltimore
Job Description
Do you love to write, dig into research and turn complex information into clear, compelling content? Are you curious about finance, markets, and the rapidly changing ways AI can support better research and writing? If so, this could be a strong opportunity to build a broad editorial skill set in a fast-paced publishing environment.
14W is seeking an ambitious Editorial Assistant to support our editorial and marketing teams. This is an entry-level role for someone who is eager to learn, comfortable working with data and sources, and excited to grow as a writer and researcher. You will help research story ideas and investment themes, fact-check and organize information, draft and edit articles and reports, track market trends, support publication workflows, and assist with other editorial projects as needed.
AI will be an important part of the role. We are looking for someone who is comfortable using AI tools to accelerate research, generate and refine ideas, organize information, improve drafts, and increase efficiency - while still applying strong human judgment, verifying facts and sources, and maintaining a high standard of accuracy and editorial quality.
Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong research skills and an instinct for finding credible, relevant sources.
- An interest in finance, investing, markets, or business.
- Comfort using AI tools for writing, research, brainstorming, and information synthesis.
- The judgment to fact-check AI-generated information and distinguish reliable sources from weak or unsupported claims.
- Basic understanding of Excel or Google Sheets.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- Customer service or other professional communication experience is a plus.
What You Need for This Position
- Strong attention to detail. You notice inconsistencies, question information that does not look right, and take ownership of accuracy before work is published.
- Curiosity and a willingness to ask questions. You want to understand the why behind an assignment, not just complete the task.
- A desire to learn about finance and investing so you can steadily expand the depth of your editorial contributions.
- Comfort learning and experimenting with new AI tools and workflows, along with the judgment to know when technology is helpful and when deeper human research is required.
- An entrepreneurial mindset. You look for ways to improve processes, surface new ideas, and help the team work more effectively.
- Creativity, reliability, and a willingness to master the day-to-day work that supports strong editorial products.
Performance Objectives
- Within 30 days, you will understand our core publications, products, editorial processes, and research standards.
- Within 90 days, you will be able to independently handle routine editorial production tasks, including posting content, supporting sends and alerts, updating tracking tools, and completing research assignments with minimal supervision.
- Within 180 days, you will be able to use a range of traditional and AI-assisted research tools to gather, verify, and organize information efficiently, and you will have a strong working knowledge of our editorial and data-tracking systems.
- By the end of your first year, you should be able to research, draft, and edit articles, research reports, and investment-related content with limited help from senior team members.
- You should also develop a practical understanding of major financial markets and investment vehicles, including stocks, bonds, ETFs, and options.
About 14W
14W is a fast-paced publishing business focused on creating useful, engaging financial and investment content. Our editorial teams research market trends, companies, investment ideas, and economic developments, then turn that work into clear and actionable insights for readers.
We value curiosity, accuracy, initiative, and continuous improvement. We also believe new technology - including AI - can make strong editors and researchers more effective when it is used thoughtfully and paired with sound judgment.
If you are interested in a collaborative environment that gives hard-working, curious people significant room to learn and grow, we would love to hear from you. To apply, please submit a resume, relevant writing or portfolio samples, and a cover letter explaining why you are a strong fit for the position.
