The Education Coaching Supervisor drives program quality and children outcomes by providing supervision, mentoring, technical assistance, and training to Education Coaches and in addition to mentoring and training education staff to support school readiness measures and program quality. This role provides on-site coaching, conducts classroom observations, demonstration lessons, and provides feedback to enhance teaching practices and teacher-child interactions ensuring alignment with school readiness goals.

The Education Coaching Supervisor is responsible for promoting the mission of ABCD Head Start & Children’s Services; building an understanding of the program by communicating this mission to staff, families and the community.

This position must comply with all federal, state and local laws, regulations, standards and policies, including those of the federal Administration for Children and Families (ACF), the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC), the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), Massachusetts disability law (Chapter 766), Local Municipalities, National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and ABCD, Inc. Head Start & Children’s Services policies and procedures.

All ABCD Head Start/Early Head Start and Children’s Services personnel who are paid to care for, or work with, children are MANDATED BY LAW to report all suspected cases of child abuse and neglect to the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families (DCF), pursuant to Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 119 §§ 51A – 51G. Any staff member who suspects child abuse or neglect of a child must inform his or her supervisor immediately.

The responsibilities of a particular position may support both Early Head Start and Head Start depending on the individual assignment. The specific corresponding funding allocation will be documented on the personnel payroll authorization or change of status form.

All communications are potentially sensitive and are subject to Head Start's policy on confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities

Coaching management and monitoring (Up to 30%)
  • Support the recruitment, selection, and onboarding process for Education Coaches; provide ongoing coaching and supervision to ensure high-quality, standardized service delivery.
  • Provide and coordinate technical support to staff in implementing all coaching requirements, policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of Education Coaches and help to facilitate their continuing education and training.
  • Review coaching documentation and data to monitor quality, identify trends, and inform ongoing support and professional development for Education Coaches.
Classroom support and observation (Up to 30%)
  • Provide ongoing, evidence-based technical support and coaching for educators in areas such as classroom management, individualizing curriculum, and communication using tools such as CLASS, ECERS-R, ITERS, TPOT/TPITOS, and other classroom observation tools as needed.
  • Provide technical support to education staff, as assigned, through direct coaching and mentoring to improve instructional practices and classroom quality.
  • Facilitate regular feedback meetings utilizing observation data to collaboratively set and track professional development goals to improve the quality of teaching practices.
  • Establish and maintain a trustful and confidential relationship with educators.
  • Model innovative, high-impact teaching methodologies through demonstration lessons and collaborative team teaching.
  • Generate necessary documentation to support the Education component in the monitoring of classroom quality.
  • Generate any necessary feedback documents to support local program education staff.
Technical assistance and training staff (Up to 20%)
  • Help to facilitate large group training for staff during regular professional in-service days throughout the school year.
  • Assist with individualized career development and quality improvement goals for educators.
  • Integration of strategic work plans and component services (Up to 10%)
  • Assist with the planning and monitoring of education component services under the direction of the Child Development Services Director.
  • Assist in analyzing classroom support and coaching data to identify strategies to achieve school readiness goals.
  • Attend workshops, conferences, and other necessary training to support component goals.
  • Participate as a member of all education team meetings.
  • Perform other related duties as required by state or federal laws or as assigned.
Utilize Information and Technical Systems (Up to 10%)
  • Maintain a comprehensive record keeping system of coaching observations and feedback sessions through documents and the database system.
  • Maintain statistical data as requested by the ABCD Head Start administration and in accordance with federal and state regulations.
  • Use data analysis to identify classroom trends and tailor professional development interventions.
  • Maintain and document on-going contact with staff through phone, e-mail and site visits.


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a closely related field is required.
  • Candidates must possess a minimum of three years of experience in early childhood education and care, including supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing strengths-based coaching, EEC Director I or II and EEC Preschool and Infant/Toddler Lead Teacher certifications, prior experience with Head Start programs, and active CLASS reliability certification are highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of child development and current research-based pedagogy, curriculum resources, appropriate classroom management techniques for preschool and/or infant/toddler classrooms and reflective practices in mentor/coaching.
  • Proven ability to facilitate engaging professional development workshops for adult learners.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication as well as interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace Apps.
  • Bilingual proficiency preferred; ability to translate effectively to support communication with diverse, non-English speaking families.
  • Demonstrated ability to work sensitively with low-income people of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Must have the ability and willingness to travel on a regular basis.

  • Ability to regularly kneel, bend, sit on the floor, and lift and move children as needed to model developmentally appropriate educational and caregiving practices.
  • Ability to lift and transport training materials, classroom materials, and other items necessary to perform job duties.
  • Must be able to work independently without intensive supervision.
  • Must be able to balance and prioritize workload and have strong time management skills.
Expected Salary: $78,787.80 annually ($43.29/hour) USD. Salary scales are set according to an explicit compensation policy and relevant market data. Due to funding restrictions and our strong focus on internal parity, this salary is thoughtfully aligned with the duties expected for this role, and offers are firm.
