  • Opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of nurses and midwives
  • Fixed Term contract through to February 2028
  • 5 weeks annual leave per annum + 17.5% leave loading & excellent benefits

Are you the nurse or midwife who colleagues remember? The one who can talk about registration complaints, burnout or an impossible ethical dilemma and still have the room leaning in, and occasionally laughing? We want you.

The QNMU is seeking applications from across all health sectors to join us in an Educator – Nurse/Midwife role. This is the perfect opportunity to combine your nursing/midwifery, education and activist experience! This is a Fixed Term Contract parental leave cover role running through until Feb 2028.

About the QNMU

The Queensland Nurses and Midwives' Union (QNMU) is the primary industrial and professional organisation for nurses and midwives working in public, private, and aged care sectors in Queensland. The QNMU seeks to promote and defend the industrial, professional, social, political and democratic interests of over 79,000 members. We have over 200 employees including organisers, professionals and administrative personnel, and manage a multi-million-dollar operating budget.

Why is the role exciting?

The variety, passion and real ability to make a change!

You’ll deliver the 2027 education calendar to members right across Queensland. Most sessions are full-day, face-to-face courses, complemented by online webinars.

The team aspiration is to deliver high-quality education and events for members, to empower them to make positive change in their workplaces and communities through knowledge and engagement.

Your participants will range from new graduates to nurses and midwifes that have been in healthcare their whole career, sometimes all in the same room. Some topics are confronting. You’ll create a safe space for hard conversations, read the room, and use humour with care, so people leave a full day feeling informed and energised rather than flattened.

You’ll also help evaluate and refresh our courses, contribute to new offerings, and deliver tailored sessions in workplaces on request.

Our values are integral to us and drive all the work we (and you!) will do. Some of our values include:

  • Fairness: We are committed to a fair society.
  • Collectivism: We are stronger when we work together.
  • Equality: We believe all people should be treated equally and have the same rights under the law.
  • Opportunity: We seek to improve the quality of life of all Australians.

What you’ll bring:

Essential

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA).
  • Demonstrated experience delivering education to adults, including full-day sessions
  • Engaging facilitation skills: you can hold a room, manage group dynamics and keep participants involved from 9am to 4pm
  • The ability to handle sensitive or confronting topics with empathy, and to bring lightness where it’s appropriate
  • Confidence facilitating both in-person groups and online sessions
  • Strong communication skills to persuade, influence and inspire
  • A collaborative approach to building relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • The ability to research, analyse and evaluate training needs and recommend practical solutions
  • Willingness to travel across Queensland for up to five nights at a time, and to occasionally work evenings
  • A current and valid driver’s license.

Highly desirable

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE) equivalent or working towards
  • Active involvement in union organising or activities
  • Experience MCing or hosting conferences or full-day events

What are the benefits?

  • Starting base salary of $130,069.54 per annum
  • 5 weeks annual leave per annum + 17.5% leave loading
  • Monthly ADO’s (13 per year) or opportunity to work compressed hours 9 day fortnight
  • Christmas closure – no leave required
  • Flexible work & hybrid working
  • Not for profit employer with Salary Sacrificing options
