This position provides remote and onsite support for our plants in Frederick, MD and Cumberland, NJ. Travel between the two plants will be 50%. Ideal candidates will be located within an hour's commute from our Frederick plant. GENERAL PURPOSE Apply strong proficiency in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) principles to manage EHS activities and programs that drive positive behaviors and results. With direction from corporate EHS, develop, implement, and maintain site policies adhering to local, state, and federal environmental health and safety regulations. Oversee the preparation, maintenance, and updating of EHS policy and procedure manuals. Ensure compliance with all environmental, health, and safety regulations and keep abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization. Actively engage in location leadership meetings and provide timely feedback regarding regulatory and safety topics; may provide and/or receive input from across functional boundaries; understand organizational mesh points and potential synergies; and integrate team efforts across business segments and channels. This position may be responsible for more than one location or for a large facility / region or complex regulatory framework. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Provide advanced technical, functional, and program management activities, which include planning, directing, and providing leadership across a division or multi-location business unit in a complex regulatory framework Provide oversight on advanced matters of environmental and workplace safety matters. As an advisor, offer counseling to managers and supervisors on how to administer coaching regarding at-risk behaviors and practices. Actively administer and oversee the Company’s Observation and Coaching program. Manage EHS practices; Interpret, administer and implement EHS programs and policies outlined by OSHA General Industry, EPA, and DOT as appropriate and maintain all pertinent records to ensure compliance with EH&S regulations and internal policies Be experienced in root cause analysis investigations and the implementation of permanent corrective action Be able to learn, apply, and provide guidance using the EHS Exchange System to all supported internal operational and logistics managers and supervisors. Perform audits to identify and develop corrective action plans for at-risk behaviors and conditions which may cause injury, regulatory non-compliance, or property loss Support the Company’s efforts at all locations to ensure a culture of consistently safe behavior and compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies Function as a primary liaison between company facilities, regulatory agencies, and consultant firms for environmental affairs and compliance Cooperate in a cross functional manner as a change agent with all departments within the Company Research, evaluate, and recommend changes to improve EHS performance Develop and administer required policies and procedures for regulatory compliance Where required, assist facilities in permitting and reporting activities for air, NPDES, wastewater, storm water, EPCRA Tier 2, Form R, refrigerant management, spill reporting, and other applicable environmental regulations Develop action plans and regulatory correspondence to address areas of non-compliance identified through regulatory inspections or required testing Conduct routine travel to multiple facilities to evaluate EHS compliance, perform site inspections, and ensure adherence to OSHA, EPA, and company safety standards. Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action implementation across regional locations to reduce workplace injuries and environmental risks. Develop, deliver, and facilitate EHS training programs for employees, supervisors, and leadership teams at various operational sites. Partner with site management to implement safety initiatives, monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), and drive continuous improvement in health, safety, and environmental performance. Coordinate and support regulatory audits, customer inspections, and compliance assessments while traveling extensively to maintain consistent EHS programs and best practices across multiple locations. Review and maintain internal EHS policies and practices to ensure they are current and appropriate Provide and/or support all required training mandated by regulatory and corporate EHS guidelines and practices Direct, assist with, and evaluate incident investigations to determine the root cause of injury or release and the at-risk behavior Work with vendors and insurance companies that provide protection programs, surveys, inspections, and location evaluations Maintain awareness of all outstanding workers’ compensation claims for all assigned locations and work collaboratively with corporate risk management personnel to support their management of such claims Work with assigned business unit to develop corrective action tables and service reports as follow up to location audits Ensure correction of observed deficiencies and issues Ensure that all documentation is completed correctly, accurately, and promptly The requirements herein are intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by employee, but is not a complete list of responsibilities, duties, and skills required. Other duties may be assigned as required EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Undergraduate degree in industrial safety/environmental sciences or related field (or equivalent combination of experience and education) 5 or more years of progressive work experience in safety and regulatory administration, preferably in a manufacturing or transportation environment (depending on area of responsibility) Certification and/or License – CPR/First Aid Certified; OSHA certifications and Certified Safety Professional preferred; other certifications may be required during course of employment KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Seasoned Knowledge of and proven skill with Microsoft Office Suite and company computer systems Knowledge of Federal OSHA, state, and local environmental regulations Be able to learn and apply new OSHA regulations as required Strong analytical skills to evaluate performance metrics and outcomes Able to develop, implement, and enforce safety programs and protocols Able to lead others in developing, develop and/or execute strategic plans to comply with existing, new, or tightened environmental, health, and safety regulations, while minimizing financial impact on the facility Able to communicate clearly, concisely and effectively, both verbally and in writing Able to present to diverse audiences from front line team members to senior management Able to collaborate with employees in a variety of departments and build consensus around key initiatives Able to interact positively and work effectively with others (interpersonal skills) Able to work innovatively, multi-task, and be performance and quality driven Able to organize time, energy, and resources effectively to achieve goals (i.e., organizational skills) Able to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations Must be able to read, write and speak English An Equal Opportunity Employer including Disabled/Veterans
