Tetra Tech Europe is looking for an EIA & Sustainability Consultant to help deliver some of the UK’s most high-profile infrastructure projects. As an EIA and Sustainability Consultant, you will Shape the future of sustainable infrastructure and contribute to complex projects across renewable energy, data centres, urban development, airports and other nationally significant infrastructure.

Working alongside experienced technical specialists, project managers and client teams, you will help shape robust environmental assessments, climate change deliverables and practical sustainability strategies that support better project outcomes.

Purpose & Scope of the Role

You will contribute to EIA, sustainability and climate change workstreams from feasibility and site selection through to the submission of Environmental Statements, EIA Reports and, where required, Examination and post-consent activities.

Your responsibilities will include preparing EIA screening and scoping reports, drafting and technically reviewing Environmental Statement and EIA Report chapters, undertaking carbon calculations and Excel analysis, and producing sustainability reporting deliverables.

You will coordinate multidisciplinary technical inputs, oversee quality, identify technical gaps and ensure that project outputs meet legislative requirements, industry best practice and client expectations. You will work closely with Project Directors, Project Managers, technical specialists, graduates and junior consultants to support the successful delivery of complex projects.

The role also offers opportunities to contribute to bids, support budget and cost reporting, develop client relationships and build experience in coaching and mentoring less experienced colleagues.

Your Impact in this position

You will become a trusted member of our EIA and Sustainability Team and a credible point of contact across project teams. Your work will help clients progress major infrastructure projects through planning and consenting processes, while ensuring that deliverables are technically robust, clearly communicated and submitted to agreed timescales and quality standards.

You will coordinate technical contributions, support stakeholder engagement and provide practical advice on sustainability, climate change and ESG matters. As your experience develops, you will have the opportunity to lead larger workstreams and infrastructure projects, manage client relationships and progress towards Senior Consultant level.

You will also play an important role in supporting graduates and junior colleagues, sharing knowledge and helping to strengthen the technical capability of the wider team.

Core Capabilities

EIA Expertise

You will bring practical experience of working on EIA projects across a range of sectors. You will be confident preparing and technically reviewing screening and scoping reports, Environmental Statements and EIA Reports.

A sound understanding of the Town and Country Planning EIA Regulations across the UK is essential. Knowledge of the Planning Act and Infrastructure Planning EIA Regulations would be beneficial.

You will be able to work independently, identify technical gaps and produce accurate, client-ready documentation.

Sustainability Expertise

You will support the delivery of sustainability and climate change workstreams at both asset and corporate levels. This may include greenhouse gas and carbon footprint assessments, environmental governance and policy documents, corporate sustainability strategies and ESG-related deliverables.

Strong Excel analysis and report-writing skills are important, alongside the confidence to participate in client meetings and communicate effectively with colleagues, clients and external stakeholders.

Technical Report Writing

You will have experience of producing clear, concise and technically accurate reports. You will be comfortable interpreting complex environmental information and presenting findings in a way that is accessible, well structured and aligned with the client’s requirements.

A strong eye for detail, sound judgement and the ability to communicate technical information clearly will be essential.

Review and Quality Assurance

You will review technical inputs and project deliverables to ensure they are accurate, consistent, compliant and appropriate for the brief.

You will be able to assess whether specialist content is technically robust, identify gaps and provide constructive input to strengthen the quality of project outputs.

Project Delivery and Team Development

You will support multidisciplinary teams in coordinating complex project programmes and ensuring that technical inputs are delivered on time and to the required standard.

Acting as a central point of contact, you will brief internal specialists, monitor project progress, identify delivery risks and help maintain oversight of key milestones. You will also support the development of graduates and junior consultants through guidance, feedback and knowledge sharing, contributing to a collaborative and continuously improving team culture.

Training, Qualifications and Experience

You will hold a relevant degree; a supporting master’s degree would be advantageous. Practitioner membership of ISEP would be beneficial.

We are looking for practical experience in EIA and/or sustainability consultancy, with a background in delivering EIA, climate change, sustainability or corporate projects. Equivalent professional experience will be considered alongside formal qualifications.

Working Environment

This role can be based at our offices in Abingdon, Cardiff or Woking. It offers a hybrid and flexible working approach, combining office collaboration, remote working and project-based travel.

As an indicative arrangement, you can expect to spend approximately two days per week in the office, with flexibility depending on project requirements, team activities and client commitments. Travel to client offices, project locations, consultation events and meetings may also be required.

Working patterns can be discussed to support business needs and individual circumstances. This role will suit someone who values technical variety, collaborative project delivery and the flexibility to work effectively across office, remote and site-based environments.
