We are seeking an Electrical Hardware Engineer to design, develop, and test hardware for our access control readers and controllers. You will join a small hardware team, report to the Lead Electrical Engineer, and work closely with firmware, product, manufacturing engineering, validation, and our PCBA CMs.
You will work alongside the Lead Electrical Engineer on every stage of development, from architecture and component selection through production release, and take ownership of your own projects over time. The work spans RF, power, digital, and PCB layout across the entire design lifecycle, and you will see your designs ship as products in the field.
Supervisory Responsibilities
None
Location: Broomfield, Colorado (Hybrid, 4 days per week in office)
Duties/Responsibilities
- Create schematics and PCB layouts, and select components based on cost, lifecycle status, and supply risk
- Simulate and analyze circuits to verify designs before and after layout
- Tune antennas and characterize RF performance for 125 kHz, 13.56 MHz HF, and BLE interfaces
- Bring up prototypes and characterize power rails and digital interfaces
- Run environmental tests and EMC/ESD pre-compliance scans
- Write design documentation, test reports, and troubleshooting guides
- Support production at our PCBA CMs by reviewing build reports, resolving assembly defects and yield issues, and root-causing production test failures
- Support manufacturing engineering, firmware, and validation teams on DFX, production test fixtures, security validation, and interoperability testing
- Troubleshoot hardware issues in production and in the field
Required Skills/Abilities
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
- 3+ years of embedded hardware development, including owning the design and testing of at least one product through production
- Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout tools
- Knowledge of microcontrollers (e.g., ARM Cortex-M) and interfaces such as Ethernet, RS-485, I2C, SPI, and UART
- Understanding of power supply design, including buck/boost converters and LDOs
- Experience with RF and wireless technologies (e.g., Bluetooth, NFC, RFID)
- Hands-on experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and spectrum analyzers
- Ability to work independently and communicate clearly with firmware, product, and manufacturing teams
- Willing to travel domestically and internationally, 5 to 20 days per year
Nice to Haves
- Experience working with PCBA contract manufacturers, including prototype and production builds
- Antenna design and RF tuning experience for 125 kHz, 13.56 MHz, or 2.4 GHz interfaces
- Direct background in the Physical Access Control System (PACS) industry
- Familiarity with OSDP, secure elements, and cryptographic hardware
- Experience with design for manufacturing (DFM), design for test (DFT), and cost optimization
- Experience with environmental, EMC, and ESD testing
- Knowledge of embedded firmware development in C/C++
- Experience with Altium Designer
- Experience with signal integrity, power integrity, thermal, or RF simulation
