What You’ll Get to Do
As an Electrical Engineer in our Physical Substation Design group, you will contribute to physical substation design efforts for projects ranging from 12.5kV to 500kV, supporting work from concept through construction. You’ll work independently on assigned design tasks, collaborate with civil, structural, protection & control, and project teams, and support field activities as needed, with guidance from senior technical staff on complex assignments. In this role, you will support both traditional electric utility clients and fast-track high-density power clients, such as data centers and industrial infrastructure facilities.
Key Responsibilities
  • Support the planning, design, and execution of physical substation projects ranging from 12.5kV to 500kV.
  • Develop and review physical design drawings, including layouts, grounding, conduit, sections, and bills of materials.
  • Perform engineering calculations, including bus sizing, loading, and conductor sizing, and support technical reviews.
  • Prepare technical specifications and equipment documentation with appropriate technical oversight.
  • Coordinate assigned physical substation design activities with civil, structural, protection & control, and project teams.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide technical input during project meetings.
  • Share technical knowledge with junior team members and seek guidance from senior engineers when needed.
  • Conduct site visits and field inspections to verify conditions and support design development.
  • Provide engineering support during construction and assist in resolving field-related technical issues under fast-track timelines.
What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) required.
  • 3+ years of experience in substation or power system design.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification preferred; progress toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of physical substation design and generation and transmission (G&T) equipment, as well as medium-voltage campus distribution switchgear.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
  • Familiarity with NEC, NESC, IEEE, ANSI, and related standards.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage assigned tasks, coordinate with project teams, and balance competing priorities.
  • Comfort working in both remote and field environments, with ability to travel up to 25%.

  • Annual performance-based bonus opportunity
  • 401(k) plan with 3.5% company match
