Job Description Delivering High-Fidelity Power System Engineering for Complex Brownfield Substation Upgrades in Heavy Industry Job Overview A remote Electrical Engineer role focused on advanced power systems engineering for large-scale industrial and mining tenders in Western Australia. The role involves leading technical studies, substation design, and detailed electrical network modeling for brownfield integration projects. The engineer will ensure full compliance with Australian and IEC standards while producing high-quality engineering reports and tender documentation for complex utility and industrial systems. Key Responsibilities Develop and validate complex electrical network models for industrial and mining sites. Perform power system studies including load flow, fault level, protection coordination (grading), and arc flash analysis. Design and optimize protection systems, including relay settings for substation upgrades and brownfield integration. Provide technical input, capacity calculations, and engineering oversight for large-scale substation tenders. Ensure full compliance with Australian standards and regulatory frameworks, including AS3000, AS3008, AS2067, IEC 61439, and IEC 60076. Produce detailed, high-quality engineering reports for utility, safety, and tender submission requirements in Western Australia. Troubleshoot and resolve complex data inconsistencies in aging brownfield electrical systems. Collaborate with stakeholders and communicate technical findings in clear, professional English (written and verbal). Requirements Qualifications & Requirements Essential Experience Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent. Minimum 5+ years of professional experience in Power Systems Engineering. Proven experience in brownfield integration projects (mandatory). Experience in heavy industrial, mining, or utilities sectors. Must not be limited to greenfield (new build) projects. Software Expertise 2+ years hands-on experience in DIgSILENT PowerFactory , OR Expert-level proficiency in equivalent tools such as ETAP or SKM PTW . Ability to independently perform: Load Flow Studies Fault Level Analysis Protection Coordination (Grading) Arc Flash Studies Technical Knowledge Strong working knowledge of: AS3000 (Wiring Rules) AS3008 (Cable Selection for Electrical Installations) AS2067 (High Voltage Substations >1kV AC) IEC 61439 (Switchgear) IEC 60076 (Transformers) Professional Skills Strong analytical and critical thinking skills for complex system modeling. High attention to detail, especially in legacy and brownfield systems. Ability to produce detailed engineering documentation to utility standards.
