Electrical Project Engineer Power Infrastructure & Utility Systems

Position Overview

Our client, a rapidly growing owner and operator of electric infrastructure supporting large industrial, commercial, and mission-critical loads, is seeking an Electrical Project Engineer to support the development and execution of large-scale power delivery and generation projects.

This role offers the opportunity to work on complex electrical infrastructure programs, including medium-voltage distribution systems, power generation assets, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), substations, and grid-resiliency initiatives serving expanding load growth. The engineer will partner closely with internal stakeholders, Owner's Engineers, EPC firms, OEMs, and equipment vendors to support projects from concept development through commissioning and energization.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in building a long-term career with an organization focused on the modernization and expansion of critical utility-grade power infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and support electrical design packages, one-line diagrams, specifications, and construction deliverables.
  • Provide engineering support for medium-voltage distribution and collector systems, including 13.8kV and 34.5kV applications.
  • Review switchgear, transformers, grounding systems, cable installations, protection schemes, and relay coordination requirements.
  • Support power system studies including short-circuit, load flow, arc flash, harmonics, and system reliability analyses.
  • Assist with the integration of generation resources, energy storage systems, and utility interconnection facilities.
  • Coordinate technical activities between engineering consultants, EPC contractors, equipment manufacturers, and internal project teams.
  • Evaluate equipment submittals, vendor documentation, technical specifications, and electrical equipment ratings.
  • Support Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) design reviews, sizing evaluations, and system integration efforts.
  • Prepare and review RFIs, technical exhibits, engineering reports, and permitting documentation.
  • Participate in design review meetings and provide technical input throughout project development and execution.
  • Support factory acceptance testing (FAT), site inspections, commissioning activities, and energization planning.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables meet safety, reliability, operational, and regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • Power Systems concentration preferred.
  • 2-5 years of electrical engineering experience supporting utility, power generation, transmission, distribution, industrial, energy, or large infrastructure projects.
  • Working knowledge of medium-voltage electrical systems and utility-grade equipment.
  • Experience with switchgear, transformers, protective relaying, distribution systems, and power delivery infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with ETAP, SKM, PSCAD, or similar power system analysis software preferred.
  • Strong analytical, technical writing, and project coordination skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced project environment and collaborate across multiple stakeholders.
  • EIT/FE certification preferred.
  • Experience supporting BESS, substations, generation facilities, utility systems, microgrids, or large industrial power projects is highly desirable.
  • Ability to travel approximately 15-25% for project meetings, testing activities, and site visits.

Preferred Background

Candidates with experience supporting electric utilities, transmission and distribution programs, power generation assets, independent power producers, large industrial facilities, utility cooperatives, municipal utilities, or power-focused EPC firms are strongly encouraged to apply.

Why This Opportunity?

  • Work on high-profile power infrastructure projects supporting significant load growth and grid expansion.
  • Gain exposure to utility-scale distribution, substations, generation, and energy storage technologies.
  • Collaborate with industry-leading engineers, contractors, and technical experts.
  • Long-term career growth with an organization investing heavily in critical energy infrastructure.
  • Opportunity to influence projects from initial design through commissioning and operation.
