Job Description

Electrical Technical Reviewer / Inspector (EICR)

Location: Remote, South Africa
Salary: Dependent on experience

About the Role

We are recruiting on behalf of an established UK electrical and property maintenance company that provides electrical inspections, safety certification, and remedial services to residential property portfolios.

Our client undertakes a high volume of Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs) and is seeking an experienced electrical professional to support its UK operations remotely.

The successful candidate will be responsible for reviewing electrical inspection documentation submitted by field electricians, ensuring reports are technically accurate and complete, and preparing quotations for any corrective electrical work identified.

This is a technical position requiring previous electrical industry experience. It is not a general administration or data-entry role.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Report Review

  • Examine completed Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs) and other electrical certificates submitted by engineers.

  • Check that inspection records, circuit details, and test measurements are correctly documented.

  • Identify missing information, unusual readings, and inconsistencies within certificates.

  • Review electrical observations and their associated classification codes.

  • Check reports against the relevant requirements of UK BS 7671 Wiring Regulations.

  • Examine supporting photographs and site information where available.

  • Liaise with electricians to resolve reporting errors or obtain additional information.

  • Escalate technical concerns to the client's UK technical management team.

Preparation of Remedial Quotations

  • Assess remedial work identified within electrical inspection reports.

  • Determine the materials and estimated labour required to complete the proposed work.

  • Prepare itemised quotations using company-approved pricing.

  • Enter and manage quotations through Xero.

  • Ensure quotations accurately reflect the work required and are issued within agreed timescales.

Operational Support

  • Manage the flow of electrical certificates from submission through to final technical approval.

  • Communicate with field engineers and the UK office regarding outstanding information.

  • Update job records and documentation within ServiceM8.

  • Maintain organised records of certificates, technical queries and remedial quotations.

  • Assist the management team with technical administration and compliance-related tasks.

Essential Requirements

Candidates must demonstrate:

  • Previous hands-on electrical experience or substantial experience in an electrical technical role.

  • A recognised electrical qualification, diploma or equivalent practical training.

  • Good understanding of electrical installations, circuit protection, testing and fault identification.

  • Ability to interpret electrical inspection reports and test measurements.

  • Experience identifying electrical faults and understanding suitable remedial solutions.

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently.

  • Good written and spoken English.

  • Confident computer skills.

Desirable Experience

The following would be advantageous:

  • Previous employment as an electrician, electrical inspector, electrical supervisor or electrical technician.

  • Familiarity with British Standard BS 7671.

  • Experience with Electrical Installation Condition Reports (EICRs).

  • Previous responsibility for checking electrical certificates or preparing electrical estimates.

  • Knowledge of electrical materials, components and installation labour requirements.

  • Experience using job-management or accounting software.

Training and Support

Training will be provided on the client's internal procedures, UK EICR reporting requirements, defect classification guidance, pricing structures and software systems.

However, candidates must already possess a sound electrical technical background.

The position involves supporting the checking and processing of certificates. Final decisions on inspection findings, compliance classifications and certification approval will remain with the client's authorised competent personnel in the UK.
