Electronics Design Engineer

Overview

Expleo is looking for an experienced Electronics Design Engineer to join our engineering team, supporting the design and development of complex electronic systems across the full product lifecycle.

You will work as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, taking designs from concept and requirements through to detailed design, integration, testing and qualification. The role will suit someone with strong hands-on electronics design experience, ideally gained within a regulated engineering environment such as defence, aerospace, automotive, medical or similar.

Responsibilities

• Design complex electronic circuit assemblies and architectures from concept through to system integration and qualification.
• Produce electronic designs, schematics and associated technical documentation.
• Carry out design calculations, simulations, power estimates and component selection.
• Work with multidisciplinary teams across systems, mechanical, software and safety engineering to develop robust solutions.
• Support PCB design activities, including design for EMC/EMI/DFM/DFX and applicable design rules.
• Participate in board bring-up, circuit/board/system testing, debugging and fault investigation.
• Support EMC/ESD testing and resolution of issues identified during verification.
• Capture and manage system and sub-system requirements.
• Prepare technical and procurement specifications.
• Contribute to design and peer reviews, presenting robust engineering solutions.
• Develop and maintain verification and qualification plans where required.
• Produce clear engineering documentation and maintain appropriate configuration/version control.
• Contribute to knowledge capture and continuous improvement across projects.
• Work collaboratively with project teams to ensure delivery against cost, schedule and technical requirements.

Essential skills

• Good understanding of PCB design constraints, including EMC/EMI and DFM/DFX considerations.
• Understanding of electronic component selection, ratings and derating.
• Understanding of the wider engineering design and development lifecycle.
• Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Experience

• We're looking for an engineer who can take ownership of their work while working effectively within a wider engineering team. You'll need to be comfortable discussing technical solutions with engineers from different disciplines and presenting your work at design reviews.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills are important, along with a collaborative approach to problem solving and a willingness to share knowledge and support colleagues.
• Proven experience in electronic design throughout the product lifecycle.
• Experience developing electronic products within a formal or regulated engineering environment.
• Strong schematic capture experience using tools such as Cadence, Mentor Graphics or similar.
• Experience with mixed-signal electronics design.
• Practical experience with board bring-up, debugging and circuit/board/system-level testing.
• Experience using laboratory equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, DMMs and logic analysers.
• Experience with requirements capture and preparation of technical/procurement specifications.
