Protecnium is an international firm specializing in engineering and technical services (www.protecnium.com/en). We are currently looking for an ELV Engineer – Integrated Security Systems to join our team on a Heavy Civil Construction Project in Cooma, NSW.
At Protecnium, we are committed to upholding the highest standards of equality, diversity, and inclusion throughout our recruitment processes. We welcome applications from talented professionals of all backgrounds, regardless of age, disability, gender identity, marital or civil partnership status, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation.
To ensure fairness and accessibility, we also provide reasonable adjustments during the recruitment process. Candidates requiring support are encouraged to let us know at the earliest opportunity.
- Location: Cooma, NSW.
- Work Modality: Initially, the position will be based on-site for the first 1 to 1.5 months. Thereafter, it will transition to a hybrid arrangement, requiring a one-week on-site visit each month (or every couple of months, depending on business needs). The remainder of the work can be performed remotely.
- Working Hours: Monday to Friday – 9-hour shifts
- Estimated Duration: Initial 1-year contract, with the possibility of at least one additional year based on performance. In general, when the project ends, we try to relocate the employee to other projects to ensure continuity.
- Summary: review and coordinate engineering deliverables submitted by the appointed Integrated Security Systems (ISS) subcontractor for project-wide CCTV and Access Control Systems (ACS). Verify detailed design, calculations, technical reports, and shop drawings against the ERs, ISS SOW, approved design, project technical specifications, relevant project security requirements, and applicable standards. Support the Communications/Radio Engineer with defined ISS network and cybersecurity interface information; that engineer retains ownership of the cross-package cybersecurity-compliance register.
- Responsibilities:
- Critically review ISS detailed engineering packages, shop drawings, technical reports, system schematics, equipment selections and engineering calculations for completeness and compliance. Review coordinated camera, access-control device and panel layouts; equipment and cable schedules; cable routing/secondary containment; wiring, termination and mounting details; power and earthing interfaces.
- Verify design coordination across ISS, Communications Network, doors/architectural, Civil, Electrical, Fire Alarm, Lifts and other interfacing systems, with the designer and BIM team.
- Prepare clear technical comments via CRS, assess subcontractor responses and revisions, address project stakeholder comments and track issues through formal closure and applicable No Objection status.
- Review RFIs, technical queries, interface control documents and design-change proposals; escalate technical non-compliances, missing engineering information and interface gaps.
- Review relevant engineering aspects of proposed test methodology, acceptance criteria and technical evidence for design compliance without performing commissioning or site inspections. Maintain the ISS engineering submissions tracker, interface register, review-comment register, and technical risk log.
- Package-specific technical review:
- CCTV systems:
- CCTV system architecture, camera types and quantities, camera positions/orientation, mounting heights and physical coverage.
- Field-of-view (FOV), DORI performance, camera-resolution and image-quality calculations and assumptions.
- Bandwidth, recording-server and storage calculations, retention, resilience, video-analytics requirements and compatibility with existing Milestone VMS.
- CCTV IP addressing, network/PoE requirements, device schedules, relevant licences and required integration interface information.
- Access Control Systems:
- Gallagher ACS architecture, panel/controller/module arrangements, reader and field-device locations and device/door schedules.
- ACS panel I/O, wiring/termination drawings, device compatibility, door-lock hardware coordination and cable schedules.
- ACS power-load and battery calculations, power supply and equipment earthing arrangements. Fire Alarm release interfaces, lift interfaces, door hardware interfaces and integration inputs for the existing Gallagher Command Centre.
- Shared ELV interfaces and cybersecurity inputs:
- Review ISS-side network and security device requirements, including IP/VLAN/port schedules, PoE loads, interface protocols, access needs, software/firmware versions and any approved architecture constraints.
- Provide the Communications/Radio & Cybersecurity Engineer with ISS cybersecurity requirement mapping, manufacturer evidence, technical exceptions, and outstanding interface information. Review ISS subcontractor responses to cybersecurity comments within ISS engineering documents and coordinate technical closure with the designated cybersecurity reviewer and project representatives.
- Verify subcontractor and project responsibility boundaries for existing Milestone and Gallagher head-end interfaces; avoid transferring contractual design and performance obligations through the review process.
- Benefits:
- Competitive salary + 12% superannuation.
- Private health insurance is provided.
- 20 days paid annual leave + 10 sick days.
- Accommodation and meals are covered on site.
- Transportation (flights) between residence and project site is provided.
- Laptop and phone are provided.
- Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Telecommunications, Communications Engineering, or an equivalent relevant discipline.
- At least 5 years of relevant security/ELV engineering experience on major infrastructure, tunnel, power or industrial projects; including detailed design and shop drawing review for CCTV and ACS.
- Strong capability in CCTV camera/coverage design, FOV/DORI, network bandwidth, and recording/storage calculations.
- Experience with ACS architecture, field devices, door interfaces, I/O, wiring diagrams, power and battery calculations.
- Understanding of IP-based security system interfaces, structured cabling, power supplies, and multidisciplinary design coordination.
- Ability to review CAD/BIM information and produce clear, traceable technical comments and review close-out records.
- Desirable:
- Engineering experience with Gallagher Command Centre/ACS and Milestone VMS or similar enterprise security platforms.
- Experience with security-system cybersecurity controls and requirements evidence, working alongside a dedicated network/cybersecurity reviewer.
- Familiarity with Aconex and CRS/ERS review processes.
