Show job description

We are looking for an experienced Embedded Firmware Developer to join our engineering team on a 6-month contract. Reporting to the Senior Software Design Lead, you will develop, test and debug embedded software for residential appliance controls and IoT products. You’ll work closely with our hardware design and overseas engineering teams.

What You’ll Do

Firmware Development & System Design

  • Develop, debug and release robust embedded software (low-level device drivers, application layers and test software) in C, C++ and Assembly, under the direction of the Senior Software Design Lead.
  • Work with hardware electronics designers to make sure electronics and firmware integrate cleanly, and contribute to system design.
  • Support new product development and maintain and improve firmware on legacy products.

Testing, Debugging & Quality

  • Set up and use in-circuit debug tools, data acquisition hardware and test automation to find root causes and resolve software issues.
  • Build and run test software and procedures to validate firmware against requirements.
  • Maintain high code quality through disciplined version control, code reviews and clear technical documentation.

Customer Interaction

  • Work with clients as needed on software design requirements, turning specifications into software flow diagrams and implementations.

R&D Opportunities

  • Take part in R&D work on IoT and cloud connectivity for next-generation products.

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of professional experience in embedded firmware design and electronic controls development.
  • A degree or diploma in Electrical, Electronics or Computer Engineering (or a related field), or an equivalent mix of education and experience. You should have both electronics and software development skills.
  • Strong command of C and C++, with working knowledge of Assembly.
  • Hands-on experience with microcontrollers, real-time operating systems (RTOS) and low-level device drivers.
  • Ability to read schematics and component datasheets, and to work at the hardware/firmware boundary.
  • Proven experience taking embedded products from concept through to production release.
  • Proficiency with in-circuit hardware debug tools, data acquisition hardware (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, etc.) and automation technologies (LabVIEW, Python, etc.).
  • Proficiency with version control tools (e.g., Git).
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
  • A track record of working well with cross-functional and remote or overseas teams.
  • Ability to work independently and deliver against project timelines.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in the consumer appliance or HVAC space.
  • Experience implementing wireless or IoT connectivity (e.g., Wi-Fi, Bluetooth/BLE) and cloud integration.
  • Certifications in embedded systems or firmware development.

What We Offer

  • A 6-month contract.
  • The chance to work on controls and next-generation IoT products from concept to production.
  • A collaborative engineering team working across Canada and overseas.
  • A hybrid work arrangement with 2 days in the office.
