Internship Opportunity

Join the Global Centre Emergency Communications Team and help strengthen World Vision's communications response to humanitarian emergencies around the world. Our team provides strategic leadership for emergency messaging, media engagement, digital content, storytelling, and rapid-response communications that help ensure the needs and stories of crisis-affected children and families reach media outlets, donors, supporters, and decision-makers.

As an Emergency Communications Innovation and AI Intern, you will support initiatives that improve the speed, effectiveness, and coordination of emergency communications through artificial intelligence, automation, information management, and digital transformation. Your work will help enhance how emergency communications teams access information, collaborate, track performance, and respond during humanitarian crises, ultimately contributing to greater impact for vulnerable children and communities.

What You'll Do:

  • Workflow Analysis and Automation: Analyze emergency communications workflows and identify opportunities to streamline processes using Microsoft 365, automation, and AI-enabled solutions.

  • Process Improvement Solutions: Design and support solutions that reduce manual effort, improve situational awareness, accelerate approvals, and enhance communications delivery during emergencies.

  • Dashboard and Reporting Development: Create dashboards, reporting tools, and performance insights that track emergency communications outputs, media coverage, website performance, StoryHub usage, and social media engagement.

  • Information and Knowledge Management: Improve information accessibility through enhanced metadata, taxonomy, document management, and knowledge-sharing practices.

  • AI Solution Development: Support the design, testing, and implementation of Microsoft Copilot agents and other AI-enabled tools that help communicators quickly access information and improve operational effectiveness.

  • Tools and Resource Creation: Develop templates, collaboration workspaces, documentation, training materials, and other resources that strengthen emergency communications capabilities across global teams.

  • Research and Innovation: Research emerging AI, automation, and digital transformation practices used by humanitarian organizations, media organizations, and other sectors.

  • Recommendations and Prototyping: Evaluate innovative approaches and develop recommendations or prototypes that improve the agility, effectiveness, and responsiveness of emergency communications.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Microsoft 365 Knowledge: Familiarity with Microsoft 365 applications, particularly SharePoint, Teams, Microsoft Lists, Copilot, and Power Automate.

  • Data Analysis Skills: Ability to analyze data and create dashboards, reports, or performance insights using digital tools.

  • Information Management Understanding: Knowledge of metadata, taxonomy, document management, information architecture, and knowledge-sharing practices.

  • AI and Innovation Interest: Experience with or strong interest in AI-enabled solutions, workflow automation, process improvement, and digital collaboration technologies.

  • Technical Advantage: Experience building SharePoint sites, Power BI reports, Power Automate workflows, Copilot agents, or similar automation and AI solutions is desirable but not required.

  • Problem-Solving Ability: Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify opportunities for improvement and develop practical solutions.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams and cultures.

  • Curiosity and Creativity: Interest in exploring new technologies, experimenting with innovative approaches, and driving continuous improvement.

What You Need to Know:

Details

  • Location: Remote within the US. You must be physically located in one of the following states where WVI is registered as an employer: Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia (Washington D.C.), Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Washington.

  • Appropriate Fields of Study/Majors: Artificial Intelligence, Information Systems, Knowledge Management, Data Analytics, Data Management, Computer Science, Digital Process Engineering, Information Technology, Business Analytics, or related fields.

  • Internship Cohort Dates: 25 January – 23 April 2027.

  • Stipend: This internship is unpaid, but all US-based interns receive a monthly stipend of $800.

  • Hours: Full-time and part-time opportunities are available (20-40 hours/week)

Eligibility

All candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • At least 18 years of age.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States (e.g., U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or F-1 student visa holder with valid work authorization) and possess a valid U.S. Social Security Number.

  • Able to commit to at least 20 hours per week for the entire internship period: 25 January – 23 April 2027.

  • Current student or recent graduate from a graduate programme (within 2 years).

  • Adhere to World Vision International’s Christian Statement of Faith.

  • Willingness to use own electronic devices for internship purposes, and disposition to let WVI install endpoint security software on those devices.
