Overview We are a mission-driven nonprofit dedicated to creating opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) through one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development, inclusive living, and family support. We are among the largest organizations dedicated to ending the social, physical, and economic isolation of people with IDD, empowering them to form meaningful friendships, secure jobs, build advocacy skills, and live independently, while also supporting their families. The Employment Consultant functions as a coach, mentor, and vocational support professional working one-to-one with individuals with IDD. This includes supporting participants through the job-seeking process, onboarding, and ongoing training, while managing documentation, compliance requirements, and employer relationships to foster successful and sustainable employment. The Employment Consultant empowers individuals to achieve meaningful employment through personalized guidance, skill development, and advocacy, helping participants navigate barriers, maximize their potential, and secure opportunities that enhance their independence and overall quality of life. Program Responsibilities Use a person-centered approach to support individuals in job searching across industries and opportunities that match their skills, interests, communities, and available transportation Provide support during orientation, onboarding, and early training, with the goal of fostering independence and gradually fading support to quarterly contact Develop and maintain positive relationships with participants, guardians and families when applicable, Vocational Rehabilitation counselors, advocates, and employers Identify natural workplace supports to ensure each individual is embraced and fully included as a member of the team Educate individuals, parents, and guardians on career opportunities and the benefits of programs such as Ticket to Work Guide participants and families in navigating Social Security issues, with referrals to WIPA and Community Work Incentive Counselors through state Vocational Rehabilitation Maintain regular communication with employers and supervisors, advocating for participants' rights to equal treatment and fair wages while encouraging self-advocacy Provide travel training and assistance with public transportation Educate participants on workplace safety guidelines and emergency procedures Encourage participants to explore other programs that build social connections and expand their network Support local fundraising events through community outreach and revenue generation Assume full responsibility for a caseload of employed participants, including documentation, tracking billable services, and compliance requirements within a secure database Complete required paperwork in a timely, organized manner, including Individualized Written Program Plans (IWPP), annual paperwork, safety exercises, and funding agency reports Collaborate with the Jobs Program Supervisor on accurate billing records and timely submission for funding reimbursement Attend regular staff meetings, annual compliance training, and quarterly Ticket to Work training modules Qualifications Bachelor's degree or 2+ years of professional experience; prior program experience a plus Ability to engage comfortably with individuals with IDD, addressing sensitive topics with empathy and professionalism Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage, support, and steward multiple relationships Basic skills in public speaking, group facilitation, and delivering engaging presentations Familiarity with Office 365 and a basic understanding of social media platforms Strong writing ability, attention to detail, and proficiency in project and time management Capable of working autonomously and collaborating effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment Willingness to travel frequently within the local area and use a personal cell phone for work-related communication Occasional weekend work to support fundraising events and initiatives Access to an automobile with applicable insurance or other reliable transportation Employment is contingent upon state accreditation and the ability to obtain federal suitability clearance for the Ticket to Work Program Compensation The base pay range for this role is $40,000 – $48,000 per year.
