Background
The African Climate Foundation (ACF) is the first and only African-led climate change re-granting organisation on the continent. Through a combination of grant making, fellowships, transformational research, technical assistance, coalition building and advocacy the ACF seeks to support interventions at the nexus of climate change, and development that have the greatest potential to deliver long-term socio-economic transformation and inclusive development. ACF also provides Fiscal Hosting (also called Fiscal Sponsorship) services to support emerging and mission aligned organisations and initiatives.
About the New Economy Hub
The New Economy Hub partners with people campaigning to decarbonise Africa and build an inclusive low-carbon economy that delivers social security and economic justice. We offer flexible and movement-generous support to initiatives that are building movement power and advancing concrete development pathways for a clean and equitable energy future that underpins a new economy and just society in Africa.
The New Economy Hub is an incubated hub of the African Climate Foundation.
About the 99%
The We the 99% platform emerged from the 2025 Johannesburg People’s Summit, where 5,000 participants from over 200 organisations across 30 countries agreed the We the 99% Declaration. Its ten demands span taxing the 1%, debt justice, corporate accountability, a funded fossil fuel phase-out, the redistribution of care work, food sovereignty and the protection of civic space. The platform is co-convened by the New Economy Hub, the Fight Inequality Alliance and Mobilize.
Purpose
We are looking for a strategic and dynamic We the 99% Engagement Coordinator to lead a programme of South-South and North-South dialogue across the platform’s membership. Multilateral cooperation is fragmenting, and rebuilding confidence in it requires national claims to converge from the ground up. The Engagement Coordinator will work with member organisations to contextualise the ten demands of the Declaration in the countries and territories where the platform is represented. They will then bring those national interpretations together into a shared programme of action, timed to key moments in the 2027 global governance calendar including G20 and COP moments. The Engagement Coordinator will be the primary touchpoint between the Hub, the platform’s co-convenors and its membership.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Programme coordination and network engagement (30%)
- Leads the design of the engagement programme. Delivers an inception plan within three weeks of appointment, setting out the sequence of dialogues, teach-ins and mobilisation moments, participation targets and the approach to contextualising the ten demands.
- Maps the membership and keeps the record up to date, by country or territory, demand area, language and capacity to take part.
- Serves as the day-to-day coordination point between the the platform’s co-convenors, convening regular check-ins and documenting decisions.
- Maintains regular communications and an effective flow of information between the platform and its membership, including through a regular bulletin to member organisations.
- Manages the programme workplan, the delegated activity budget and logistics, including interpretation, virtual platforms and scheduling across time zones.
Convening and contextualisation (30%)
- Designs and facilitates at least five virtual South-South and North-South dialogues, reaching at least 300 participants from Africa, South and East Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean.
- Convenes at least eight webinars, debates and teach-ins with member organisations, reaching at least 500 participants across at least six countries and territories. These are co-hosted with national-level actors so that the framing comes from the national level.
- Ensures convenings are accessible across languages, time zones and bandwidth, and that they bring out differing priorities rather than forcing consensus too early.
- Compiles a record of engagements documenting how each of the ten demands is understood, prioritised and contextualised across the represented countries and territories, applying consistent documentation, consent and data-protection protocols.
- Leads a consultation with the body of the We the 99% platform to draft a synthesis statement that links national interpretations to a shared programme of action, ready for co-convenor review within 8 months of their appointment.
Advocacy and mobilisation (20%)
- Develops and maintains a live advocacy calendar registering mobilisations and direct actions timed to key global governance processes including the G20 UK 2027 and preparations for the COP32 Ethiopia processes.
- Coordinates, with the body of the We the 99% platform, at least three joint mobilisations and direct actions at key moments, flagging safety, civic space and reputational risks to the line manager in advance.
- Coordinates the development of engagement tools and resources, such as briefs, presentations, mobilisation toolkits and press releases, that advance the platform’s advocacy priorities.
- Co-creates integrated media and communications campaigns with the Hub’s Strategic Communications Officer, the co-convenors and relevant partners.
Learning (20%)
- Leads the development of a light-touch monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) framework for the programme at inception, including two or three learning questions agreed with the line manager and co-convenors.
- Monitors the programme’s performance against its indicators, collecting participation data broken down by region, country, gender and type of organisation.

Requirements include but are not limited to:
- Honours’s degree in Social Sciences, Law, Development, Economics, Journalism, Media Studies or related field.
- 5 years’ experience in network coordination, movement building and/or advocacy, including work across more than one country.
- Demonstrated experience designing and facilitating convenings across several countries, including virtual convenings across languages and time zones.
- Working knowledge of the global economic justice agenda, with depth in at least one of the Declaration’s demand areas, and an understanding of how civil society engages multilateral processes such as the G20 and UNFCCC.
- Demonstrable experience delivering advocacy campaigns and trans-national mobilisations that catalyse action.
- A strategic thinker with an entrepreneurial orientation.
- Outstanding synthesis, communication and report-writing skills, with the ability to turn many voices into a coherent record without flattening their differences.
- Experience applying participatory monitoring, evaluation and learning methods.
