Engineer III or IV - SCADA
MortensonSUMMARY
Mortenson is currently seeking a Engineer III or IV - SCADA that will be responsible for a broad range of detailed engineering designs for high voltage substation and transmission projects through 500 kV. Candidate will be responsible for working closely with other engineering and design team members to coordinate overall design package and requirements. They will be responsible for performing a broad scope of engineering assignments of advanced difficulty requiring knowledge in engineering-related disciplines. They shall be capable of independently evaluating, selecting, and applying standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria by using judgment in making adaptations and modifications and providing interpretations and conclusions.
This position offers opportunities at both levels 3 and 4, allowing candidates to apply based on their experience and qualifications. Compensation for this role is determined based on factors such as experience and location.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for SCADA design and on-site integration of SCADA systems for utility-scale Wind, Solar, Storage substation applications.
- Create/Support basic Network Switch configs
- Create/Support basic SEL HMI programs
- Create/Support basic SEL RTU programs
- Create/Support fiber diagrams
- Create/Support Comm block diagrams
- Support SCADA integration Activities
- Works independently with high level direction from Engineering Lead, Principal Engineer, or Engineering Manager.
- Performs data analysis and engineering tasks for completion of small projects
- Perform engineering calculations required for SCADA designs supporting projects
- Assists with the review and approval of equipment vendor drawings and test reports on equipment from manufacturers with Lead Engineer or Manager review and approval
- Provide engineering support for proposals, estimating, procurement and construction
- Review of engineering work produces a first-time review rate of documents at 75% correct.
- Provides technical support to personnel/cross functional teams supporting the assigned project by performing moderate level engineering calculations, data analysis, and engineering tasks.
- Assist field personnel in resolving unanticipated site conditions.
- Basic project management and analytical problem-solving skills
- Understanding of discipline specific technical designs, QA/QC procedures, and engineering policies
- Basic knowledge of engineering principles, business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements
- Assist in the development and evaluation of the technical requirements for fabrication and construction tender packages
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong analytical problem-solving skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related Engineering program
- Engineering-in-Training (EIT) certification or achievement of EIT within 6 months of entering position with the expectation of achieving a PE license in the future
- PE license, preferred
- 4+ years of related work experience in the Transmission & Distribution (T&D) industry
- Proficient in engineering theories and principles
- Proficient in practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations
- Basic programming knowledge
- Ability to work on a team and alone
Ability to travel up to 25% to project sites to assist with SCADA integrations. Typically, 1 week at a time to a project location.

Engineer III
- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience
- The base pay range for this role is $98,800 - $133,300
With PE License: $108,700 - $146,700
Engineer IV
- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience
- The base pay range for this role is $111,400 - $167,100
With PE License: $122,500 - $183,800
(Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%). This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.
