Show job description

Hi 👋 we’re Genio. We create beautifully simple learning tools that boost knowledge, skills, and confidence.

  • We’re a SaaS scale up and one of the fastest growing tech companies in the North.
  • There’s 90+ of us around the UK with our HQ in Leeds.
  • Our software is award-winning and used by 100,000s of students at over 1,000 universities & colleges worldwide.
  • We’re growing so we can achieve our mission to support 1 million students to become better learners by 2030.

🎯 This is a deliberately broad role, in a small team where decisions happen quickly. You'll see your work make a difference to the learners who rely on our products. If you want to lead engineers, own software delivery and have a real say in what gets built, this is that role.

🚀 About the role

We’re looking for an Engineering and Delivery Manager to lead the engineering team behind our assistive technology products: Genio Notes, Genio Present and Genio Admin, used by learners and institutions who rely on them every day.

You’ll manage our AT engineers and own how we deliver. That means line managing the team, working with our tech leads to improve how our two squads work, and making sure what we commit to is what we ship. You’ll work side by side with our Principal Engineer; they define our technical standards, and you work with them to make sure they are implemented. You’ll be a driving force in how we keep evolving our approach to AI-assisted development.

You’ll also work closely with our Senior Product Manager and Senior UX Designer in the prioritisation of what we build, so this role suits someone who cares as much about what we build and why as they do how it gets built, and who wants to be close to the commercial side of a small, focused division rather than one step removed from it.

You will be responsible for:

  • Managing, developing and supporting our AT engineers, with clear expectations, honest feedback and real investment in their growth
  • Owning delivery across our two squads: sequencing, scope, commitments and trade-offs, and giving the business an honest view of what’s achievable
  • Coaching our tech leads and squads to improve how they work, and building the reporting that helps the team see and improve its own delivery
  • Leading how we work with AI in development, including how we get the most from it and where human review matters, alongside our Principal Engineer
  • Partnering with product, design and our commercial teams so engineering effort is pointed at real value for learners and the institutions we work with
  • Holding engineers accountable for keeping to our engineering, security and compliance standards

👥 Meet the team

You’ll be joining the Assistive Technology Solutions team, part of the AT Division, a small team that owns its own products end to end. There are eight engineers across two squads including a shared test engineer, plus a Principal Engineer, a Senior Product Manager and a Senior UX Designer. You’ll report to our Head of AT Solutions and work as part of the leadership group for the team.

It’s a team where decisions get made quickly and you can see the effect of your work on real users, rather than negotiating for attention inside a larger organisation.

👤About you:

Essential:

  • Experience managing engineers directly, with a track record of developing people, setting clear expectations and addressing performance honestly when it’s needed
  • Evidence of improving how engineering teams deliver: flow, sequencing, dependencies and commitments, and helping teams spot problems weeks before they bite
  • A hands-on software engineering background, enough to speak the same language as your engineers and challenge at the right level
  • Comfortable and current with AI-assisted development, and ready to lead how a team gets the most out of it while keeping quality where it matters
  • Pragmatic about risk: able to judge where something needs more care and where it’s fine to ship and iterate
  • Product-minded, caring about the impact of what ships and helping engineers connect their work to learner outcomes
  • Collaborative by instinct: works as a trio with product and design rather than receiving requirements, and builds relationships across commercial teams
  • Experience working with senior stakeholders and demonstrating excellent communication skills

Bonus / Nice to have:

  • Experience leading a team through a change in how they work with AI
  • Background in accessibility, or in an industry with meaningful compliance requirements
  • B2B SaaS experience, particularly working alongside sales, customer success and marketing
  • Experience owning delivery across more than one team at once
  • A mix of time in a larger, more mature engineering organisation and in a smaller team where you had to build good practice yourself

💰Salary and benefits:

£85,000 - £100,000 dependent upon experience

🏖️ 33 days annual leave (Inclusive of bank holidays)

🎄 3 gifted days off at Christmas

💰 EMI Share Options Scheme

🎓 Generous individual learning and training allowance

⌚ Truly flexible hours to suit when you work best

💻 Full home working set up and beautiful collaborative office space

🚗 Free Leeds City Centre office parking

🌴 Nomad working policy with family travel insurance

🍼 Enhanced 26 weeks maternity and 4 weeks paternity (fully paid)

🤍 Health cash plan (from glasses to massages)

💸 6% employer pension contribution

📍Location:

We operate a flexible hybrid working model, including supporting our Genios who are based remotely across the UK. If you are more than 50 miles away from the office, we offer full remote working support, with the opportunity to join colleagues for in-person collaboration several times a year.

We will discuss ways of working with you at interview however if you have any questions before you apply please reach out to recruitment@genio.co

💡 What to expect next:

We’ll review your application and provide a response within 1 week. Even if it’s not the news you’d hoped for, we appreciate it’s good to know either way.

If we invite you to meet with us for interview, here’s an overview of what the process will look like:

  1. Screening interview with someone in our Recruitment team (15 minutes).
  2. First stage interview with the hiring manager and another Genio colleague (1 hour).
  3. Final stage interview which includes a 1 hour culture and values interview, plus a 30 minute task. You will be meeting with the hiring manager and one of the Executive Team.
