| Hybrid | Regular UK site travel
Company Description
NexenX Ltd provides executive leadership, engineering strategy and management support to the power and energy sector, with a focus on Biomass and Energy from Waste.
We work with asset owners and power station leadership teams to strengthen engineering governance, operational performance and long-term asset resilience.
Our approach brings together capable people, effective systems and practical strategies that support safe, reliable and commercially sustainable power generation.
As a growing business, NexenX offers senior leaders the opportunity to shape our approach, develop organisational capability and influence the future performance of the assets we support.
Role Description
We are seeking an Engineering Director to provide strategic engineering leadership across the power stations supported by NexenX. Reporting to the General Manager, you will work closely with the Operations Director and each station’s Plant Manager and Maintenance Manager to establish engineering priorities, strengthen technical standards and guide long-term asset management.
You will provide overarching strategy, technical assurance and specialist guidance.
Each power station’s existing operations and maintenance structure will retain responsibility for hands-on maintenance, daily planning, resource allocation and operational delivery.
Working collaboratively with site leadership, you will assess engineering risks, challenge existing approaches constructively and help translate strategic objectives into achievable site plans. Your focus will include asset integrity, reliability, maintenance strategy, lifecycle planning, outage strategy and capital investment priorities.
This is a full-time, hybrid role combining remote working with regular site visits and in-person collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop an overarching engineering strategy aligned with asset owner objectives, operational requirements and long-term asset resilience.
• Provide strategic direction and technical guidance to Plant Managers and Maintenance Managers, supporting their ownership of site delivery.
• Establish proportionate engineering standards, governance and assurance arrangements across the power stations supported by NexenX.
• Review asset condition, integrity and technical risks, advising on priorities, mitigation measures and escalation.
• Guide the development of site maintenance and reliability strategies, including preventive and predictive maintenance approaches.
• Set expectations for computerised maintenance management systems (CMMS), engineering data quality and performance reporting.
• Provide strategic oversight and technical challenge of outage plans, major maintenance proposals and improvement programmes.
• Review lifecycle plans, equipment obsolescence, strategic spares and capital investment proposals.
• Advise on technical requirements and long-term arrangements with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), specialist contractors and service providers.
• Monitor engineering performance, identify recurring issues and promote learning and good practice between sites.
• Support the development of engineering capability through coaching, technical guidance and knowledge sharing.
• Provide engineering input to the assessment and mobilisation of future assets and assignments.
Qualifications and Experience.
• Substantial senior engineering experience in power generation, biomass, Energy from Waste or a comparable asset-intensive industrial environment.
• A strong record of developing engineering, maintenance and asset management strategies that improve reliability and long-term performance.
• Experience providing strategic leadership across multiple sites, or within a similarly complex operational environment.
• Strong understanding of asset integrity, engineering risk, maintenance optimisation, outage strategy and equipment lifecycle management.
• The technical credibility to challenge proposals, assess competing priorities and provide sound, practical recommendations.
• Commercial judgement in evaluating capital investment, major maintenance requirements and technical service agreements.
• The ability to influence and support experienced Plant Managers and Maintenance Managers while respecting site responsibilities and established operating arrangements.
• Clear communication skills, including the ability to explain technical risks and investment priorities to senior leaders and asset owners.
• A collaborative leadership style that builds trust, develops capability and encourages accountability.
• A relevant engineering degree or equivalent professional qualification or substantial relevant experience. Chartered Engineer status would be advantageous.
