Engineering Manager

About the Role

Join a core product engineering team at an early-stage govtech SaaS company, helping modernize software for local governments. This hands-on, product-minded role combines people leadership with technical direction and direct contributions to design and code.

What You'll Do

• Lead and mentor a team of 3 to 7 software engineers, supporting their career growth and development.

• Partner with product and cross-functional teams to define and deliver the technical roadmap for core products.

• Spend approximately 20% to 30% of your time coding, reviewing code, and shaping system architecture.

• Guide architectural decisions to support scalable, performant, maintainable systems.

• Promote strong standards for code quality, testing, documentation, and engineering ownership.

What We're Looking For

• 7 to 15 years of software engineering experience, including direct experience managing engineers.

• Proficiency with React, TypeScript, and Python, along with experience building customer-facing products.

• Experience integrating AI tools such as Claude or Cursor into engineering workflows.

• Startup experience; early-stage startup experience is a plus.

• Familiarity with Java, PostgreSQL, AWS, Docker, Terraform, and CI/CD; experience with Kotlin or Go is also useful.

• Ability to work US time zones and travel up to 10%.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: $165,000 to $205,000 USD annually. Visa sponsorship is not available. Candidates must be authorized to work in their country without sponsorship.

Remote, with a primary location in Canada. Candidates may be based in Canada or the United States.
