Engineering Manager (Backend)

This is a remote position.

Shuru is a technology and AI-focused engineering company building scalable digital products across fintech, payments, eCommerce, data, and AI.

We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager- Backend to lead a team of senior backend engineers and own delivery, technical strategy, and team development across complex systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor backend engineers across one or more squads.
  
• Own delivery of complex backend initiatives and cross-team dependencies.
  
• Drive architecture for scalable, reliable, and high-performance systems.
  
• Guide design across APIs, microservices, databases, messaging, and cloud infrastructure.
  
• Partner with Product and business teams on roadmap and priorities.
  
• Mentor senior engineers and develop future engineering leaders.
  
• Drive hiring, performance management, and team growth.
  
  

Requirements

• 4+ years of engineering management experience.
  
• Strong backend engineering background with Java or Go.
  
• Experience with microservices, distributed systems, APIs, SQL/NoSQL, Kafka or messaging queues.
  
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD, and cloud platforms.
  
• Strong system design, scalability, reliability, and stakeholder management skills. FinTech, Payments, Banking, or eCommerce experience is a plus.
